The First Goats at Riverview-Ranch

These are the first goats to live at Riverview-Ranch. Their names are Sara and Daisy. Sara is in the front and Daisy is in the back. We got Sara and Daisy in April of 1993. Originally it was my mom and sister who wanted goats- I wanted a horse. But when I saw those 2-week-old Saanen Angora cross babies, I decided maybe I did want a goat. That's when my 'Caprine Addiction' started, or so it's called. So, we came home with two little doe kids that were bottle babies. We had a blast with those goats-feeding them and playing with them.

After awhile we got some Pygmies- a doeling, two bucklings, and an older doe. We were going to castrate one buckling and he was going to be my pet, but he died at 2 or 3 weeks of age. At that time we didn't know a whole lot about goats, so we don't know what he died from. We had the pygmies for awhile, and on June 18, 1994, the first kids were born at Riverview-Ranch. Lucy Rebecca Pygmy, Lucy for short, had twin bucks, a patched one, and an agouti one. My sister like the patched one and she named him Patchy, and the agouti one was mine, named Pedro. The pictures is of me and Pedro, a few minutes after he was born. Pedro and Patchy, known as 'the boys' were very spoiled goats.
