Some background info on the PenSans Brewery Web Site !
The Purpose of this site is to share with you a little of my excitement for brewing beer, my brewing philosophy, something about my favorite PenSans beers, offer you a couple of files for downloading, link you to some informative documents from our homebrew club and, hopefully, get some feedback from aspirant brewers world wide !!
The PenSans Brewery is best described as a "fempto-brewery" . . . that is . . . smaller than a pico-brewery, much smaller than a nano-brewery and incredibly small when compared to a micro-brewery ! Put another way, its my own personal home brewery !!
The Head Brewer is none other than myself, Jeremy Wallis, a closet brewer who moonlights during the day as a project manager in a scientific R&D company based in Pretoria, South Africa.
The name "PenSans" means "Holy Headland" in the Cornish language and refers to the old town of Penzance in South West England from whence I hail ! Never forget your roots . . . heck, they could be used to spice a brew some day ! Go See Penzance !
The PenSans Brew Length is a massive 60 litres per brew, limited only by the size of the cold cabinet that I ferment in.
Brewing Equipment & Processes : Like most homebreweries PenSans does not use endless rows of stainless steel ! It uses a mix of plastic containers and copper tubing to replicate the brewing process, as well as I can, within the home.
The Beers of PenSans Brewery are mainly English Style Ales (remember those roots ?!) although alternative styles are investigated as time allows. Check out the Belgian Wit Ale as an example !
The WORT HOG Brewers : My brewing experiences have been HUGELY influenced by being a member of a homebrewing club. Here in South Africa we aren't exactly at the centre of a micro-brewery revolution and so it was only through meeting and talking with other aspirant homebrewers and our eventual creation of the WORT HOG Brewers Club that many of us can today even spell the word "brewing".
