TERMINAL LEARNING OBJECTIVE

Without the aid of references the student will understand the basic considerations in planning an urban insertion and extraction.

ENABLING LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The student will understand the different types of platforms used during insertion and extraction operations

1. Types of insertion and extraction platforms include:

a. Foot.
b. Vehicles.
c. Boats.
d. Helicopters - rooftops, HLZ's - fastrope, SPIE.
e. Subways in a semi-permissive environment.
f. Trains.

2. Planning considerations for insertion and extraction operations include:

a. Vehicle
1) Good running condition.
2) Clear route into insertion/extraction point.
3) Space limitations for personnel and equipment.
4) Noise.
5) Track signature.
6) Coordination with higher?
7) Driver training and experience.

b. Boats
1) Crew training and experience.
2) Water route, obstacles, weather, choke points.
3) Drop off and pick up point.
4) Use of dummy drops.

c. Helicopters
1) Lift capacity.

3) Large target, especially in an urban environment.
