E-mail
Americans love to stay "connected." People on a
work team sometimes feel anxious because they don't know what's
happening back home. While you are here in South America, you
will want to send and receive e-mail with friends and family
back home. E-mail is a wonderful way to stay in touch.
Do you have
a Minister of E-mail? Is there someone in your work team who
could bring a laptop computer? E-mails could then be composed
at the group's leisure and connected to our ISP (Internet Service
Provider) to send. This has worked well in the past. Otherwise
there can be a real traffic jam around the mission computer,
while everyone waits for their turn to send mail.
One laptop could be a real blessing to your group. It could
help you stay connected (with friends, family, and your favorite
sports teams) while you are here in South America.
Note: if you are bringing a laptop computer
you will want to bring along a line conditioner. "Brown-outs"
are more common here than in the States.
