First Aid

Suriname has a good medical care infrastructure for a developing country. Doctors and nurses are trained in Holland and can provide much of the health care that Americans are accustomed too. Emergency medical care can be obtained in any of the several hospitals throughout Paramaribo.

It is a good idea, however, to bring along first-aid materials. Each work group should have on hand butterfly bandages, antibiotic, disinfectant, gauze pads, aspirin, Tylenol, and etcetera. These could be a big help if someone in your group is hurt during your trip to Suriname. Good hospitals are available in Paramaribo, but you might have to wait a while to be seen by a doctor--even in the emergency room!
