Redraw problems.
Even after several updates to the OS X version of QuarkXpress, there
continue to be problems with screen redraw. There are minor issues
of bounding boxes still being visible in the original location after
an object has been moved using the "align" tool (Fig.
1) and white bars obscuring objects after switching back to QuarkXpress
from another application (Fig. 2). Occasionally, there is a severe
issue of the whole window becoming blank after switching back to
QuarkXpress from another application.
Use the force-redraw shortcut (Command-Option-Period).
Step and repeat shortcut.
The shortcut is STILL Command-Option-D, which is used by the OS
to show/hide the dock. Shame on Quark for not changing this by now.
Thankfully, the OS allows us to turn off the shortcut
(or replace it with another) in System Preferences so that QuarkXpress
can now use it.
Saving down.
While this is becoming less of an issue, if you need to save down
a file so that QuarkXpress 4 users can open it, you still can't
do it directly from version 6.x.
Save your file as version 5 and then resave it as
version 4 from a copy of QuarkXpress 5.
Printing problems.
Several web forums have complained about printing issues, and I
personally have had problems with page numbers appearing as 999
in print dialogs, even though there're only 2 pages in the document.
The issues I noticed seem to have been fixed
in version 6.5.
Missing Document Setup.
Document Setup has completely disappeared, and there's no shortcut
for Layout properties. Changing document sizes now takes a bit longer.
QuarkXpress doesn't allow changing or adding keyboard
shortcuts, so you'll have to get used to it.
