PROBLEM
SOLUTION
Mounted server "hijacks" the last
used Finder window
Regardless of whether a Finder window is selected or not, when you
mount a server, the last used window will be used to show the server's
directory. However, this does NOT happen if the window is hiding
its toolbar, or if the window is minimized: In this case, the server
does what it's supposed to, and opens its own window. The server
should open its own window EVERY time.
No solution found. Apple needs to fix this user
interface bug.
Update (Feb. 10, 05): This has been fixed in newer
versions of OS X.
Finder window's zoom button behaves differently
than the zoom command in the Finder menu
Clicking the zoom button on a window will "frame", or
reduce the window's size to fit all of its content without any extra
space. Selecting zoom in the menu, however, will expand the window
to fill the whole screen. The correct behaviour (as in OS 9) is
to "frame" the window whether you select zoom in the menu
or click the button, and option-zoom should make the window fill
the screen.
No solution found. Apple needs to fix this user
interface bug.
Can't set default FTP client
Unlike OS 9, OS X's Internet settings will only allow you to set
the default e-mail and Web browser, not the FTP client. OS X's built
in FTP abilities are not ideal for pre-press environments (poor
user interface, permissions problems, not full-featured like Fetch
or Transmit).
No solution found.
Update (Feb. 10, 2005): Use the excellent freeware
app More
Internet to set your internet preferences.
Find original always reverts window's view
mode to column view
Regardless of what view your current window may be in, selecting
an alias and choosing "find original" will switch the
view to column view.
No solution found. Apple needs to fix this user
interface bug.
A workaround is to hit command-2 immediately after selecting
"find original" to revert back to list view (or command-1
for icon view).
Update (Feb. 10, 05): This has been fixed in newer
versions of OS X.
