Civil Service Preparation Class

Queens High School students are fortunate to have a Civil Service Preparation Course available to them.  This course was developed by the QHSO Transition Team and coordinated by Rosa Smith-Norman, Borough Work-Study Coordinator.

The Civil Service Preparation Class was designed to address the needs of students in an Instructional Support Services/Special Education Program. As identified in their transition plan, students have expressed an interest in developing the skills needed to acquire a civil service position.  This course was designed specifically to serve the following purposes:

Students learn how to read and answer want ads in various newspapers, identify skills needed for getting and keeping a job, complete job applications, prepare a resume, role-play the interview process, research various civil service positions, access information through the Internet, and visit the New York State Department of Labor Web Site.
