In the alternative future that she was born into Rachel was a member of its version of the New Mutants. She was a member of the team until the Xavier Mansion was stormed and she was taken away at age fourteen.

After Rachel was taken away, she was given to Ahab to basically be experimented on. After a year or so of brain washing, programming, and other such related experiences, she became the first Hound. That being a mutant programmed to hunt down other mutants. And Rachel was the best hound there was, until she broke free of her programming and nearly killed Ahab.

Rachel reappeared again, after being clawed through the heart by Wolverine, several months after most of the X-Men were presumed killed in Dallas. Being hotly chased by Mojo's Warwolves and Technet, she was helped out by the surviving X-Men and England's Meggan and Captain Britain. Afer defeating their foes the super-heroes decided to form a group to carry on Xavier's dream.
