THE VENEMOID INVADERS

These are the sinister alien forces that have taken over the Space Ring and are now poised to attack and conquer the Earth. Under the control of the Venemoid Warlord Darkon, hoardes of ugly, disgusting, evil, mutatated, repulsive, horriffic, foul (that enough adjectives for ya?) spider-crabs attack Earth's forces on and above the planet. As if that weren't enough, the Venemoids have turned some of the humans against their people by transforming them from ordinary humans into biomechanical warrior slaves called Teknomen, each of whom is infinitely more powerful than a swarm of spider-crabs. Who are these Venemoids? Read on and see.

Spider-crabs: These are the foul, repulsive, yatta yatta yatta creatures that are the main muscle behind the invasion. They have a natural(?) biomechanical armor that makes them so durable that it takes a whole lotta soldiers to take down just one. They wreak havok by multiplying on the Space Ring, curling into big balls, and dropping down through the atmosphere by the hundreds to tear up the people below. Mindless but powerful, they are everywhere.
Darkon: The Head Venemoid Honcho himself. We see little of him in the first season of the show (which is ALL we get to see without looking for Tekkaman Blade stuff, thanks to the dimwits at UPN), so not much is known about him. Not why he wants to take over our particular corner of the galaxy, and not even where he comes from. We do get a cool sound bite at the beginning of each episode, though. ("When I descend upon the Earth, darkness will unveil its banner across yet another region of the cosmos!!") When Slade and his family were converted by the nasty Venemoids, Darkon was not around. By the time they and Slade reach Earth, Darkon is calling the shots. There is no mention of who was in charge before Darkon, either. It had to be someone; I mean, a brainless hive of spider-crabs can't posses the cybernetic know-how to turn people into Teknomen. Rumor has it that one of Slade's older brothers, Conrad, is actually Darkon.

Gunner: An evil Teknoman. He is the first such being the Space Knights encounter, after Slade. Gunnar is actually Slade's younger brother. He proves to be a serious pain in the butt, too, until Slade waxes him with his quantum-energy beam weapon, that is.

Sabre: Slade's twin brother. His real name is Cain Carter. He is also a Teknoman, but he has been brainwashed to be loyal to the Venemoids without question. In his human form, he does not feature Slade's scar on his left eye, though. In addition to his mission of "re-convert Slade or kill him," he is preocupied with finding their sister Shara, who is also a defector, and turning her once again against the humans. Ultimately, he meets his end at that same time as his sister, Axe, Rapier, and Lance.

(L-R) Lance, Axe, and Rapier: More evil Teknomen. Very minor roles. They are conversions of the crew of the spacecraft that was captured by the Venemoids, made to serve the warlord Darkon. They come with Sabre to beat up on Space Knight headquarters. When Shara pops out, they beat up on her. Unfortuneatley, Shara self-destructs in an effort to save the Space Knights. On a lighter note, though, most who have seen that episode will agree that her self-destruct animation is the coolest-looking explosion ever produced! I've been told that Lance is a female Teknoperson who actually used to be Conrad's fiancee.
