Pay It Forward, directed by Mimi Leder, teams ultra-award caliber Haley Joel Osment, Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt: “Sixth Sense,” “American Beauty,” “Twister” and “As Good As It Gets”, respectively.
Mr Caviezel plays Jerry, a believable, drug-addled, lost boy-man.
Mimi Leder
Mimi Leder developed her storytelling expertise in television, and completed several firsts for women in films, including directing the first theatrical film to be released by Dreamworks SKG. She gained a reputation as an action storyteller with the $350 million box office she racked up with another film she directed, “Deep Impact”.
Mimi Leder was the first woman accepted to study at the American Film Institute’s cinematography programme.

Character Jerry
The character Jerry appears only briefly in this film, and the character serves a pivotal role in demonstrating how one might pay it forward.
In the last scene where we watch Jerry plead with a woman in an engaging way; taken in context, he takes your breath away in a sentence or two.
Apparently willing to give himself over completely to the look required by Jerry, Mr Caviezel is nearly unrecognizable. He could be confused with Bill or Billy Campbell, another storyteller with a first name in transition.

Reviews
Reviews for this film may only be luke-warm, but when you find yourself in need of some effective emotional puppeteering, “Pay It Forward” jerks all the right strings. Mr Caviezel’s screen time is not long.

In a review published October 12, 2000, in the Johns Hopkins News-Letter and written by Max Power, he writes:
“As an added bonus, though, James Caviezel also stars in Pay It Forward. James Caviezel has appeared in The Thin Red Line and Frequency, doing an amazing job in both.”
