Project Announced

Added April 23, 2002, Relocated April 30, 2002
We’ve just learned of a new film for Mr Caviezel, which he is committed to begin filming in late July. Mr Caviezel’s role is simply labeled topline or star.

The working title is “Rebels” and the story was written by John Fusco, who also wrote “Young Guns”. David Cunningham will direct.

It’s an American Revolution story about Ethan Allen, whose settler parents purchased a land grant in the Green Mountains (now Vermont state).

“Rebels” tells the story of events that fueled the passions of a young band of New England rebels struggling to overcome their fellow colonists’ objections as they stood against British rule and its tyranny.

As available on Ananova.com.

Pre-release Tidbits

The US magazine Entertainment Weekly reported on April 23, 2002, that Mr Caviezel is to tell the Ethan Allen tale. They may be a little confused about which Ethan Allen beats at the heart of this story. [registration required]

June 12, 2002
From January 2002, a Sunday magazine article about the scriptwriter John Fusco that sheds some light on “Rebels” and on his motivation to tell the story on film.

Also, thanks to HS, a clarifying note about casting Mr Caviezel and about shooting locations.

Added June 13, 2002, updated July 16, 2002 and July 24, 2002 and August 10, 2002
Caveat
Because this film is in pre-production, we ask you, kind reader, to remember that nothing we publish guarantees that this film will complete any of its cycle steps according to what you may read here.

Of course, we’ll keep this page as up to date as possible. But we’ve all witnessed what’s happened with “Madison” and its schedule...for example.

As of July 16, we cannot confirm rumours that we’ve heard about shooting to begin in Canada’s British Columbia for this film, starting at the end of July.

As of July 24, we cannot find any listing in the Canadian Web sites we know of that list film shooting locations for this film during July.

As of August 10, we again are unable to find any details about filming locations, or scheduling of principal photography for this story.

What we do know is this: Walden Media is involved with both this film and with “I Am David”.

Added June 12, 2003, thanks to MW and PME, moved from What’s New on September 27, 2003
We’re pursuing [this] item: that Mr Caviezel may have separated himself from “Rebels”; we’ve requested confirmation from Walden Media.

Added December 3, 2003, reconfirmed July 7, 2004
We understand from what we believe to be a reliable source, that this project is still in “active development”, but we have not been successful in verifying whether or not Mr Caviezel has separated himself from the film.
