About This Page
Essentially, this page serves the site as an archive page, so you don’t miss any updates.
We work to update the site once or twice weekly, or more frequently when there are newsworthy updates we can publish. This means that we refresh the contents of the What’s New page, and pointers from the home page to new news. Hence, Previous Updates becomes the permanent home of new news as it cycles through the site.
Note that once the news is no longer new, some of the topics will move to appropriate pages, and the last updated date adjusted accordingly.
For example, we moved publicity about ‘Crimes’ from What’s New to the ‘Crimes’ page and changed the date to reflect the addition. Then, when the DVD became available, we moved the note to this page.

Turning Down Advert Millions
Added May 22, 2004
Mr Caviezel has been quoted in several places, including the World Entertainment News Network, as saying that he had been approached by several advertisers to partner with them as a spokesperson. One advertiser, a T-shirt manufacturer with the brand name of ‘Heavenly’ was named in particular. Mr Caviezel says:
“I think if I had given way on just one scheme, I would have been tempted to do more. It would have been the easiest thing in the world to make that kind of money quickly. That sum would secure your future, but I would never be able to forgive myself.” He adds, “I could see the humor in it...but I think I would have upset a lot of people who got something special from the film ‘Passion’.”
Some have rated his potential advert earnings at US$75 million.

Rumours of New Films
April 8, 2002
Gawain and the Green Knight
From the same interview, this rumour comes apparently from the interviewer, Charlotte O’Sullivan.
Terrence Malick, with whom Mr Caviezel made “The Thin Red Line” is planning a film about Gawain and the Green Knight, which in fact is the name of a Middle English poem.
“Sir Gawain, or Gawayne. One of the principal knights of the Round Table, in the Arthurian cycle of romance. He appears first in Geoffrey of Monmonth as Walwaiu (Gallicized Gawayne), and then in nearly every one of the romances. He is known as ‘the courteous’. Chreatien of Troyes gives him the first place among the knights. The poem Sir Gawayne and the Grene Knight, from the French metrical romance of Percival, is assigned to about the year 1360: it has been republished by the Early English Text Society. There was another knight of this name who served under Amadis of Gaul and achieved great deeds."
--The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia, Volume IX, Proper Names (c)The Century Company, 1894.
Here with agree with Ms O’Sullivan: who better to play Gawain?

Princess of Paradise Park
Note April 7 clarifying update from MJS.
We first found mention of this story in September 2000. Then, last January, 2001, BPI Entertainment Newswire stated that production was due to begin April 15, 2001. Since the status of this story is unknown, nothing about its future is certain.
Apparently Michael Seitzman, scriptwriter and producer, will direct from his script. The project is for Franchise Pictures (also participant company for “Angel Eyes”).

Kings College Commencement Speech, 2003
Added May 20, 2003, thanks to HS, corrected June 3, 2003, thanks to CV, updated June 11, thanks to DE, updated again July 12, 2003, archived August 4, 2003, updated February 25, 2004
A story covering Mr Caviezel’s commencement speech to the Kings College graduates in Pennsylvania yesterday underscores his conviction as to the value of faith in life.
[Please note that the recipient of the rosary was actually Mrs Malick, according to interviews you can read on the ReelCaviezel ‘Thin Red Line’ page. ed.]
We’re in the process of requesting an electronic copy of the speech, or a link to it. Stay tuned.
On July 8, we received word from the publicity office at Kings College that there would not be any copies of the speech made available.
On February 25, 2004, The Citizens Voice writes about why Mr Caviezel was chosen to deliver this commencement address.

High Crimes Publicity
Archived April 22, 2002
The “High Crimes” trailer does not focus on Mr Caviezel, nor is he featured in the print adverts or posters.
We predict that the follow-on media products, such as DVD editions of this film, may feature Mr Caviezel as he continues to earn recognition for his work.
In truth, Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd do share a long history of storytelling together. With she the protagonist and he the foil, indeed, this is their characters’ story to tell.

Pure Speculation Batman v. Superman
Added July 16, 2002
We found a fair amount of commotion around casting for two characters, namely Batman and Superman, apparently for an upcoming Wolfgang Petersen film. Mr Caviezel’s name appears with strong support. As of July 11, 2004, this link is no longer available.
Variety notes that Petersen “...is seeking actors who can offer complex emotions as well as six-pack abs”.
Petersen also said that “everything after September 11 is different. You want to change the image of these superheroes”.
Click commotion, above, and in the new window, click the message boards link at the end of the short story, and on the boards page, search for Caviezel.
Added August 14, 2002
Well, that was fun wasn’t it? Petersen announced today that he found The Iliad a more compelling story to tell than Batman v. Superman, so the franchise match up is temporarily shelved, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"Luminaria"
Note Tip from lilly April 9 Updated May 3, 2002 by 7adman, Archived May 5, 2002, article evaporated as of May 25, 2003
We found a mention of Mr Caviezel in this 2000 article from the LA Times, which has now evaporated.
We believe that we misread this item from the LA Times, so have archived it under this topic.
Added April 28, 2002, Archived May 15, 2002
On an American cable channel, American Movie Classics, we understand that a regular feature, “Behind the Scenes” playing the week that begins April 28, 2002, contains a section about the making of “High Crimes”.
We watched the first playing of this program on Sunday evening, and alas, there was no mention of either ‘Crimes’ or Mr Caviezel. We apologize for any inconvenience we generated.

April [2002] Stock in Trade
Archived May 6, 2002
Here’s what we are finding on various Web sites that perhaps can contribute to this kind of rise in [HSX stock] value.
- Mr Caviezel speaking about filming nude scenes in Reel Deals on January 22, 2002.
His position apparently repeated in the UK celebrity magazine Now, in the issue Dated April 17, 2002
- His inclusion—only a mention, really—in an Atlanta Journal and Constitution article titled “Star Search: Hollywood celebrities and newcomers, looking for more in life, turn to God”, posted in late March 2000. (Article available in their paid archive.)
- Film reviews of ‘Crimes’ that include photos of Mr Caviezel in popular print media, including People, Entertainment Weekly, and the American newspaper USA Today.
- The nice long legs of ‘Monte Cristo’, which is now past 87 days in wide release in North America, ranking it the 12th most popular film this year. Its US performance means that it remains active in more than 200 theatres across North America, grossing nearly US$54 million to date.
Finally, its opening in Europe and at least Argentina in South America and pending May release in Australia bode well for his reputation.
