8/08/02 - Square on Nintendo, finally some advancement... and Halo 2
Finally Square has outlined its GBA plans. Besides the already announced GBA version of Final Fantasy Tactics, three other titles were mentioned. Along with a new game in the Chocobo series, Seiken Densetsu will appear on Nintendo's portable system. Unfortunately, Square did not say whether the latter is a port of a previous game in the series or if it's an entirely new installment. Interestingly enough, however, is the news that Brownie Brown will handle development duties. Brownie Brown's staff includes many ex-Square employees involved in the earlier games. The last game Square announced today goes by the name Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicle. It will be an entirely new game developed specifically for the Game Boy Advance. According to multiple sources, Crystal will allow interactivity with a Gamecube game via the GC/GBA link cable. Gamers will be able to transfer data between the two versions, playing the same quest on either the GBA game or its big brother. As well, it will support the regular GBA-to-GBA link cable for multiplayer gaming. Both games are set for mid-2003. In non-Square news, Microsoft revealed early plans for Halo 2. More than a simple online-enabled upgrade, the next game will feature new enemies and environments, in addition to the requisite online play. More information will likely follow. -Smorange Sources: gamespy.com and gamesarefun.com |
