R.S. Akimoto & Hotshot Combination

I couldn't leave well-enough alone. If you saw the full Hotshot intake that I made, you might have noticed that the curve between the throttle body and VAF wasn't exactly a great fit. This concerned me a little as the tube ends were barely inside the connectors and I was afraid that it might shake itself apart. I knew that the RS Akimoto tube had the perfect curve (almost 90°) to fit, but is didn't match the polished Hotshot tube so I didn't use it. RSA & HS Combo

I finally bit the bullet and put aesthetics aside for peace of mind and functionality. I removed the Hotshot tube that I had cut to fit between the VAF and throttle body and replaced it with the RS Akimoto tube. I had to take 1-1/2" off the length of the RSA tube as it was a little too long to fit with the Hotshot on the front of the VAF. The Hotshot cold air pipe needs the VAF to be in the factory location and the RSA put it a little forward of that.

In my honest opinion, this is the intake that some company, any company, should have made for our Probe GTs. This is an intake that I personally could justify spending $200 on. It looks good and fits perfectly. The cold air pipe greatly helped my 1/4 mile times and the tube between the throttle body and VAF is the perfect place to tap the NOS nozzle. The entire intake is smooth with a constant diameter the entire length of the tubing.
As I said before the Hotshot tube was polished and the RS Akimoto tube was clear anodized aluminum....not a terrific match. To help them match better, I coated them with, uh...ceramic! Yeah, that's it, ceramic! I am just kidding, I actually coated both pipes with "Aluminum" colored high-temperature engine paint. I think that it looks OK with the aluminum intake manifold and cam covers.

This is by far the best fitting and functioning intake that I have made. Although it would have been awesome if it was totally polished, I kind of like the uniqueness of the aluminum color. Most intakes are anodized colors or polished....this one actually looks like it belongs in the engine bay. With that said, I will say that this will be the last intake I will make. (??)
