Research Papers

Dr. Zubair Shiekh presents seven research ideas in this class and asked students to pick any one idea and write a research paper in IEEE format. The paper is to be done individually and will also be presented in a conference. Following are the detailed explanation of those ideas.

1. Knowledge Classification; ways of knowledge classification, survey based paper

2. This idea requires knowledge of Quran. As many of us already know, the whole Quran’s summary is Surah Fatihah. The idea is that the knowledge of whole world can be categorized in to the Ayah of Surah. Each categories is taken from every verse of Surah Fatiha. 1) Definition 2) Attributes 3) Test 4) Rules and Regulation 5) Procedure 6) Advantages 7) Disadvantages. The hypothesis of paper we can chose to write is that ‘All the verses of Holy Quran can be mapped in to any of these seven categories’. In addition, these categories forms some sort of heirarchy, with each category arranged at some level of hierarchy forming a tree. What you are required to do in your research is to first design a questionnaire and asked Ulema to fill the questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed with questions to ask the Ulema if they agree with the hypothesis or not.

3. As we know, the world we are living is dominated heavily by English. Whether it is the basic usage of computer or internet world. The 2nd idea is to design a questionnaire to ask people, are we dependent on English to learn and use computers. The questionnarie can also be filed online.

4. This idea is related to field of Social Agents. You have to design a software using Agents technology. There will be a Behavior Agent that based on users interaction will determine the behavior/nature of User.

5. Another idea related to agents. There are various tasks we do in our daily life that requires a lot of interaction. Forexample usually in FAST, when we have some official work, we might have to visit several offices like Acad. off, ZN office, directors office and ultimately after so huge amount of interaction, our task is done. What we can do now is automate all of this task by means of an Agent, that learning the interaction path and in future doing all of these things by himself. What one can do in two week now is to provide a conceptual framework atleast, describing the whole scenario and proposing the solution

6. Lets start understanding this idea with an example. If I write the word office, what we visualize? Obviously, ther will be chairs, table, cabinets etc in a room. So a single word provides appropriate context. A lot of work has already been done in past in which this thing is automated to provide the context related to words. This is called ‘Storyboard Telling’. The idea is that ‘Can agents technology can be used to do the same thing by means of some scripts assigned to agents?’

7. There are two main agent architecture around us. One is MASIF and 2nd is FIPA. A large number of frameworks are around us based on thse two architectures. The question is why not the third architecture? Do a comparison of two architectures and come up with the conclusion ‘is there any need for third architecture?’

Site Comparison

In this class, we studied how to compare two processes/softwares/websites. This class was conducted in a lab and comparison between two search engines had being done. The two search engines were www.hotbot.com and www.webcrawler.com. Students were asked to compare the two sites in terms of approach, the objective of comparison and then rate the two sites on a scale of 0 to 5 ( 0 being the lowest and 5 being the highest ) in terms of features provided on each.

The approach towards comparing any two products is start with identifying the objective of it (i.e. what you want). Selection of what kind of approach will be used to compare two product is also play a major role. Usually, every comparison should have user survey to support the field data collected in the process. After that, we need to find out the ease of use of the products and efficiency as compared to each products. ( i.e. A is better than B).

Dr. Zubair Shiekh introduces how to do a peer reviews and also distributed the peer reviews notes in the class. Students were asked to peer review the third search engine www.vastle.com using the finding identified in the first comparison process.
