How to Critique a Research Paper

In this class, Ghullam Ali (PhD student) give us a detailed lecture of how to critique the research paper followed by the sample research paper which we critique at the end of the class. Following are the topics which are discussed in the class.

  1. Critical Reading and Critical Thinking

  2. Four Levels of Critical Thinking

  3. Critique

  4. How to formulate/write research problem and what are the components of research problems.

  5. How to design the research problem.

  6. What are the tools and techniques are used to make the sample and procedures of data collection, analysis and result.

  7. Discussion of findings

  8. Critiquing a research paper

All the students were given a research paper to critique in the class. The research paper title was "ActorNet: An Actor Platform for Wireless Sensor Networks". In the end we were given a choice to select a research paper regarding the area of interest and prepare a presentation that critiques it in accordance to the questions that were discussed in the class.

Week # 6 - 14th October, 2006
Presentation

In this class, Nine presentations of different group takes place who presents there research papers to the students and critique them in front of them. Students in a group of two present there thought regarding their own research paper. All those groups who give presentation in the class are required to fill the critique sheet related to their research papers. The questions in the critique sheets are from the previous lecture and we have to give points to each questions to evaluate our own research paper.

I also present my research paper with the critique analysis. My research paper title was

"Rapid Development for Distributed Computing, with the Implication of the Virtual Observatory"
