VOLUME 1 ISSUE 12 Newsletter date June 2000 THERE IS NO FIRST ATTACK IN KARATE As you know we will explain the meaning of Funakoshi's 20 principlines of life. Here we find one of the grat masters best known maxims. This principle can be taken 2 ways either literally or figuratively. Literally; If you get into trouble, block your advisories blows without striking in return; let him defeat himself. Figuratively; Patience and fortitude are the marks of a true karate practitioner. The latter is the one that shold be brought to the frount of your mind in your everyday training.

THE WAY OF MIND SOUL AND SPIRIT. The way of mind soul and spirit! Do we understand the meaning of this statement and for my peace of mind can anyone recognise it? I would like to think that most of our students can relate to this statement because it is a very important part of your training. We always strive to pass on the knowledge that we have gained through our dedication to training over the many years that we have put into the Martial Arts. Our Sensei's spent long hard hours passing on their knowledge to us through relentless patience, we digested that knowledge with a great deal of gratitude. This type of dedication seems to be slipping away as does time but the worrying factoer is that time can't be replaced with the past
As you all know this is our 12th newsletter. I hope you have been able to get a little out of these letters over the past year. We have been asked to do a demo for the St. Patrick's RC school at Langley Moor, this will be on Sunday 9th July at 12 noon, I would like to see as many students there as possible it promotes your Ryu. I asked a lot of you about the meaning of Kata and why we do it: thanks to those who replied. The general answer I was looking for was: to give you knowledge of techniques in fighting and be able to draw upon that knowledge at a seconds notice. This can only be done if your training is done in earnest.
only with the future. The saying that I am sure every one has said at sometime in the past is, "I wish I had or had not done that". The trouble is the past can not be brought back so you must have the will power and determination to go for whatever goal you have set youself. If one of your goal's is to do well at this Martial Art you must put all your effort into your training now and not have the attitude that I willdo better when I feel like it. If you leave your goal till another day that precious TIME will pass you by and you will never be able o get that back. I have the greatest of respect for my Sensei, the trouble is he is dead but my respect lives on.
