Taekwon-Do
Modern Taekwon-Do (TKD) differs greatly from other martial arts. No other martial art is so advanced with regards to sophistication and effectiveness of its techniques or overall physical fitness that practitioners gain. Technically, TKD began in 1955 as a formally recognized art in Korea. A special board was formed that year, which included leading master instructors, historians and prominent leaders of society, decided on the name of TKD on 11th April. This single unified name of TKD replaced the different terms: Dang Soo, Gong Soo, Taek Kyon, Kwon Bup etc In 1959, TKD spread beyond national boundaries. The father of TKD and nineteen top black belt holders toured the Far East, astounding all spectators with the excellence of TKD techniques. Many of these black belt holders such as Mr. Nam Tae Hi (President of the Asia TKD Federation), Mr. Han Cha Kyo (Head instructor in Singapore) and Mr. Cha Soo Young (International instructor in Washington D.C.) went on to spread the art to the world.
