Junko began her career when she went to Tokyo at the age of 13, when she was accepted to an acting school. She started going to auditions for seiyuu work when she was 19 but did not get any work until she was 23. Before she started seiyuu work, Junko did many different types of work. She appeared on TV programs, where she was a big sister figure in children shows which involved singing and talking to children. She was even a member of an idol group called Saint Four before her career as a seiyuu.
Due to her recent role in Card Captor Sakura as Tomoyo, an otherwise normal girl besides her obsession with dressing up and taking videos of her best friend Sakura, Junko gained a lot of popularity and recognition. However she was first widely acknowledged as a much talented seiyuu when she took on the lead role as Key of the anime Key the Metal Idol.
While most people are more familiar with Junko's child voice because of the popularity of Card Captor Sakura, she is in fact a flexible seiyuu capable of performing a wide range of voices. Her other roles playing mature ladies, such as Tomoe in Rurouni Kenshin and Ceres in Ayashi no Ceres, clearly shows her great talents.
Not only is Junko a very capable seiyuu, due to her music backgrounds, Junko is also arguably one of the best seiyuu singers out there. Currently have 8 personal albums under her name and countless other songs, Junko had been holding regular concerts and live house tours. Her great ability to sing live is also well acknowledge in the seiyuu community.
Junko's nickname "Penguin" came from her pose when she's nervous, as this picture shows clearly. |
