Community Outreach is an important part of the Sierra Gold Quilters Guild.
As part of our Community Outreach, Sierra Gold Quilters Guild members make lap-size or larger quilts for various agencies within Amador County. Over half of our members participate in making at least one of these quilts each year. These quilts are created from our large stash of donated fabric and/or the quilter’s own fabrics. Batting is purchased or donated to complete each quilt.
Last year (2008) a total of 161 quilts were distributed between:
- Amador Pregnancy Center
- Bundles of Love
- Kit Carson Nursing and Convalescent Hospital
- Operation Care
- Upcountry Angel Tree Christmas Project
We also donated 135 Christmas Stockings, 1 knitted lap robe, 2 knitted preemie caps, and 461 small toys and school supplies. In support of the Amador County Sheriff’s Christmas Toy drive, we donated 55 Christmas Stockings and 160 small toys and games.
Members also sew Chemo Caps for distribution to cancer patients in Amador and other hospitals and clinics. In 2008, Sierra Gold Quilters Guild donated 230 caps (both fleece and knitted).
We have a newly formed committee that collects donations for the Interfaith Food Bank at the monthly meetings. In this time of need in our community, our donations make a difference.
