Alice’s birdcage fell closer and closer to the jagged carpet of hypodermic needles at the end of the shaft
Miraculously Alice survived the fall. She crawled along a narrow tunnel and then found herself in an enormous subterranean cavern lit by the dim glow of some unknown source of light. In the cavern was a very large, pink monster with golden wrenches sticking out of its rubbery scalp.
As the hideous monstrosity lumbered towards her, a radially symmetrical being with numerous sets of eyes and a lovely pair of wings swooped out of the sky and pulled her out of the grasp of the approaching monster.
This new being made a strange whiney song as it flew. It introduced itself as An Invertebrate. An Invertebrate claimed to come from a very distant part of the universe and a distant past as well. It said that its people had been responsible for the evolution of humankind and felt obligated to save its favorite species from an invasion of monsters. They monsters were pooling their resources on The Island of the Monsters and soon planned to take over the world. An Invertebrate began to point out sites of interest along the alien inner landscape of the Island. “Tricolored Boygirl Dolls.” “Ed’s Gein’s House.” “The Owls of S.” “El Jardín de las girasoles.” “The Big Jarbaby Bas-relief.” “The Blooddolls that Lurk Behind the Clouds.”
