In the same area as the ocotillo plants there were many cholla cacti. Sometimes called "Jumping Cholla"or "Teddy Bear Cholla" the plants are both beautiful and treacherous at the same time. The cute little fuzzy parts of the cholla cactus "jump" off and if you aren't careful, thay can quickly attach themselves to you. They are extremely tenacious and very hard to remove. The very slender barbed spines penetrate the skin quite easily. We we fortunate to not experience any direct skin contact, but we did manage to get a few on our shoes. A pair of needle nose pliers was the most effective tool we found by which to remove them.
