Robert Marshall
Robert Francis Marshall, the youngest boy in the Marshall family, never enjoyed living on Belleterre and always wanted to leave.
Robert is tall and lean with brown hair, fair skin, and light blue eyes. He hates getting his hands dirty and doing work that will involve
sweating. His first year at Harvard was unsuccessful and he never completed it, not did he tell his family so. He obtained a job in a
bank and was successful, but a misunderstanding with his employer's niece caused his dismissal. While living in Boston, he became
acquainted with Madison Taylor and was shocked to find her living at Belleterre when he returned
home. The two are infatuated with each other, but both are too stubborn to admit anything to each other. Robert won a good deal of
money from Madison in Boston, but she always insisted he cheated. When they met up again, she demanded a rematch. He threw the
game and allowed her to win her money back. They later shared one drunken night together after Madison had unwittingly professed
her love for him. She tried to forget the night, and further insulted him by accepting Jack's
proposal. He left for Boston and she followed him, but he rejected her. They soon reconciled when he found out she had miscarried
their child, but was unable to convince her not to go to her aunt's in Paris.
Gabe Hewitt
Gabe Hewitt was raised in an average family in the east. He worked in a pharmacy while attending high school and later medical
school to pay for his education. He worked hard and studied hard and eventually became a surgeon. Marrying when he was

army in the War, achieving the rank of captain. He made good contacts and found well-to-do families owing him a favor for saving
their son. After the war, he worked in a hospital in Boston until the transcontinental railway opened up. During this time, his wife
died. He was then offered one quarter ownership in a hospital in San Francisco, plus a substantial salary. He acceptedthe position
right away. Gabe met Georgie Randall when she moved to San Francisco. After their first meeting,
Gabe began seeing more and more of Georgie. Gabe is of medium height and is quite husky. He has brown hair with whisps of grey
over his ears, hazel eyes, and a moustache. He proposed to Georgie on the Fourth of July and married her shortly before leaving to
attend Tess's wedding. Gabe was encouraged to allow Louisa to stay at Belleterre and study with Grace and Julia. He later consented to Louisa's going to art school in
Philadelphia. He and Georgie had a son, Randall, a year after their marriage. He was unaware that a
good friend of his, Peter Carlson, attempted to blackmail Georgie.

currently attending medical college. Steven works part-time at Gabe's office and sometimes helps examine patients. He is tall and
lean, towering six inches over his father. He has brown eyes, sandy-colored hair, and reading glasses. After a fire at his school put
him on an extended vacation, he decided to spend his time at Belleterre as a Christmas holiday there found him attracted to Grace. The two had a falling out, and he soon befriended Julia, who had been
pining after him, and decided to help her when she found herself pregnant, though she never told him who the father was.
