Samos
Samos is one of the main islands in the northeastern Aegean group. It is perhaps the most beautiful and certainly the most touristed island of the area. While it is a 12 hour ferry ride from Athens (Piraeus), it is the main transit point to Ephesus on the Turkish coast, the site of perhaps the most extensive classical ruins in the Mediterranean. Samos brings you within seeing distance of Kusadasi Turkey, to which you can take a day trip.
