Santorini

Santorini is the most beautiful islands of all. This picture was taken as I sipped on a "FRAPPE" (ice coffee) one August afternoon. Believe it or not, the picture does not do it justice. It is even more beautiful in real life.

Formed by the massive volcanic eruption with gave rise to the Atlantis legend and is believed to have destroyed the Minoan civilizations on Crete, Santorini is the most striking island in the Aegean. The island is actually the outer rim of a sunken volcano, and its entire eastern coast is a succession of small towns perched on high cliffs.

The capital is Thira, and is a labyrinth of shopping, restaurants, bars, etc.

Everyone who visits Santorini goes to Oia to see the sunset. Its rather humourous to see everyone heading to the tip of the island to get there on time to find the perfect view, order their drinks, etc.

Big hype, but pretty nonetheless.

I have been to Santorini twice now, and would go back in a heartbeat. It is one of the busiest islands, but definitely, unique in its natural beauty.

Perissa Beach has black sand and is lined with hotels. Its a rather long and crowded bus ride down from the city (Thira) but worth it. Personally, I prefer the independence of a moped...
