Screw the maps. I decided to create my own walkthrough, and if you want to use it, pleaz ask.

Pallet Town
First, check your PC and pick up the POTION. Then get out of your house and wander into the grass up north and Professor Oak will stop you. He'll bring you to his lab and give you a choice of pokemon to start with. The site poll revealed that 36% of the voters preferred Bulbasaur (probably because it is a dual-type) and 32% Squirtle and 32% Charmanser. Beginners should choose Bulbasaur and experienced trainers should choose another. Don't forget, Gary picks the one who has a natural advantage over your pokemon. Be ready for a battle! Now, head up through Route1 to Viridian City, but you're not in such a hurry, huh?

Route 1 You might want to train your pokemon, but you can't catch any yet. A guy will give you a POTION, so find him and talk to him. Pokemon Red Blue Pidgey Common Common Rattata Common Common Viridian City Go to the Pokemon Center if you want to heal your pokemon. Then head to the pokemart. The shopkeeper will give you a parcel to deliver to Professor Oak, so do that and, while you're in Pallet, go to GARY's House to get a TOWN MAP. You can't buy anything in the Viridian Pokemart until that's done. This is the first place you can buy pokeballs, so when you come back, buy a few. You'll want to catch Rattata and Pidgey, and you might want to head west of Viridian to catch a Spearow, a Nidoran m, and a Nidoran f. Don't go too far, though. GARY is waiting to fight you with a L9 Pidgey and his starting pokemon at L8. If you're going to Viridian Forest, stock up on a few ANTIDOTES and 3 to 5 pokeballs. Here are the pokemart items: POKEBALL 200P ANTIDOTE 100P PARALYZ HEAL 200P BURN HEAL 250P POTION Sold Out! Route 2 Your first time here, you're only going to enter Viridian Forest and enter Pewter City. You'll come back later... Red Blue Pidgey Common Common Rattata Common Common Weedle Rare ----- Caterpie ----- Rare Viridian Forest You'll meet three trainers in the Viridian Forest. You'll also find: 1.Pokeball 2.Antidote 3.Potion And you'll find the following pokemon: Red Blue Weedle Common Rare Kakuna Common Rare Caterpie Rare Common Metapod Rare Common Pikachu Rare Rare Don't worry about meeting a Kakuna or a Metapod. They can only HARDEN! Finding a Pikachu is hard, so don't give up! Pewter City I hope you've trained your pokemon well, cuz in this city, there's a Gym Leader, and your first badge, the BOULDERBADGE! Heal your pokemon and stock up on some potions. Beat Brock and then head to the Museum for an extinct pokemon exhibit. For strategies and tips on beating Brock, check out

the Fighting Gym Leaders Section
. Then go to Route 3.
