The Sol of a man

With a few days to go the dominant saga surrounding White Hart lane seems to be the affairs of a 25 year old man

It's hard to be Sol Campbell these days. All of last season he kept everyone guessing as to his next career move. Then he took his talents to Euro 2000 where apart from the titanic battle against Germany,he along with the rest of the England team flopped badly. He returned home to find that not nearly as many clubs were interested in him and he would have to spend another season with us.

Then he came out with all guns blazing.Attacking, though rightfully, the ambition of the club and then telling them what needs to be done.I frankly, do not take kindly to players that come out publicly and attack the club or manager he plays for. It's not a question about being ungrateful to someone who pays your wages. Its all about affecting the overall morale of the team and on the eve of the premiership kick off, such actions do not bode well for the upcoming season.

George Graham has publicly said that he expects Sol Campbell to leave on a free transfer next season. It is clear that both club and player have fallen out with each other. In simple really for Spurs. The club's ambition has been questioned by almost everyone and justifiably so.If they are not adventurous enough to find decent players, the least they can do is to hang on to their star employees. If Campbell should walk at the end of the season, finding an adequte replacement in these days of inflated prices, would be out of the question.

Which brings us to a dilemma of some sorts.Spurs may make an irrestible offer to Campbell but the player's ambition may see him take off for the continent where clubs like Lazio would'nt mind paying US$2 million a year just to sit on the bench.

A player does'nt become bad overnight.Sol Campbell should be the rock around which a credible Spurs can be built. But first let's get the players, then set the goals.Sol should stay but not at the expense of his career.
