MARSHALL
1968 PLEXI 50 HEAD AND 8X10" CAB
The picture below shows Byrd's Marshall 1968 50 watt non master volume
"Plexi" head and Marshall 8x10" Cab. The amp is
stock except for a 'fail safe' mod to the mains transformer and rerouted
wiring to reduce noise. For more info on Marshall 8x10" Cabs
click HERE. This amp is what is heard
exclusively on 'FLYING BEYOND THE 9', 'CRIMES OF VIRTUOSITY' and the
majority of 'SON OF MAN'. The picture below is actually the 'SON OF
MAN' signal chain.
PEAVEY
VTM120 HEAD AND CAB
Also shown is a Peavey VTM120 Head and Peavey Cab [loaded with Celestion
Vintage 30s], this was Byrd's main amplifier on 'Atlantis Rising' and 'The
Apocalypse Chime' and was used on 'CRIMES OF VIRTUOSITY' AND 'SON OF MAN'
purely as the FX amplifier for reverbs from an Alesis Quadraverb II.
It was not used during 'FLYING BEYOND THE 9'.
Signal
chain above reads as: ESP Strat > Ibanez TS-9 Tubescreamer > Dod
FX35 Octoplus > Dunlop Crybaby Wah > Marshall Plexi Head >
THD Hotplate > Marshall 8x10" Cab.
However, from the THD Hotplate a line out goes to the Alesis Quadraverb
II then to the Peavey VTM120 to the Peavey 4x12" (note the Peavey
only amplifies the delays/reverbs from the Quadraverb).
PEAVEY
CLASSIC 30 COMBO
Used
on some solos on 'Golgotha - The Right Hand Of Power' from 'SON OF MAN'.
The Classic 30 is as the name implies 30watts of pure Class A valve
tone. Byrd used the amp running flat out for 'Golgotha -
The Right Hand Of Power'.
