BYRD'S STRATOCASTER STYLE GUITARS
This page is to show some of James' older guitars. He does not use them now but they show what instruments were used prior to the introduction of the Super Avianti.
Fender
Custom Shop Stratocaster
Shoreline Gold # 0119
This
custom shop Fender Stratocaster was built by the late master builder Mark
Whittenberg. It was was one of the earliest examples from the custom shop
bearing number 119. The guitar features an Ash body, 60's style left handed
rosewood scalloped fingerboard. The body is an original Floyd Rose tremolo
system. Pickups installed are DiMarzio HS-3's in the bridge and neck, and
a DiMarzio HS-1 in the middle, the fretwire is Dunlop 6105. Byrd no longer
owns this instrument.
This guitar was used on the majority of the tracks on 'Octoglomerate', roughly half of 'Son Of Man' and all electric parts on 'Crimes Of Virtuosity'.
ESP
Custom Shop Stratocaster
Pearl White
This
guitar is an ESP Custom Shop Strat. It features a left handed neck, original
Floyd Rose tremolo, DiMarzio HS-3's in the bridge and neck, and a DiMarzio
HS-1 in the middle. The bridge pickup and routing are reversed, showing
Byrd's Hendrix influence. Fender have recently issued a guitar with similar
modifications on the Voodoo Strat. The body is light swamp ash.
This guitar was used on 'Out Of The Temple' and 'The Teacher' as well as various other bits on 'Son Of Man', and was used for the vast majority of 'The Apocalypse Chime'. 'Flying Beyond The 9' multi instrumentalist and engineers now owns this instrument.
