Today was a beautiful
day. The weather was lovely. School was even fun. But the best part was that when I left
the building to go out to the car, mom was waving my letter from Buster out the window! So
I went running. He put the post-card in the envelope too. He wrote on it: "Better
late than never! ha, ha! Buster" He started out his letter with a poem he wrote.
I watched t.v. the rest of the night. "Mork & Mindy" is a new show. It
was hilarious! Then I studied a bit. Then I watched "SOAP." They finally told us
who did it. Chester Tate did.
There was a small thing in "the Penney Press" tonight about Buster leaving.

Fri. Sept. 15, 1978
Today was great! Much better than yesterday even! Know why? Cuz I didn't go to school!
Mom let me go shopping with her & Aunt Dorothy! We went to a neat mall in
Bloomington-Normal. I got all kinds of stuff, including this new diary book.
The weather outside is just wonderful! Beautiful breeze! Only problem is, that's a sure
sign that fall and colder times are coming up.
Goofed off on my station for about an hour.
Watched Carol Burnett as I wrote Buster a letter. Invited Stacey to stay all night
tomarrow. I'm watching "Grand Theft Auto." Seems everyone else is watching that
retarded "Ali-Spinks" fight. I could care less about a couple of idiots beating
each others heads in. This sure makes a neat diary. Now I can write as much as I want for
each day! I'll probably run out of diary before 1978 is over.
Sat. Sept. 16, 1978
Went to Eagles grocery store. Got a whole bunch of munchies for tonight. Washed my car.
Stacey arrived around 2:30. I goofed off a bit on my station for awhile, then we took a
bike ride. Had tortilla's for supper. Mike drove us around Brookview in my car. I love it!
We watched "Chips" with that hunk, Erik Estrada. He's one hell of a good disco
dancer!
We watched part 1 of "King Kong." It's continued tomarrow night.
We are now gonna try to watch "Saturday Night Live" and "The Midnight
Special." That is, if we don't fall asleep first! We really hit the munchies a lick!
And there's still a bunch left.
Sun. Sept. 17, 1978
Woke up around 8:30, still half asleep. Uncle Don & kids came over. Took a short
nap from about 2:15 till 5:00. It was refreshing.
I'm watching "Battlestar Galactica." It's stupid. I hate space shows. The
only reason I'm watching it is because Richard Hatch is on it. I'm sleepy. I guess it
isn't all that stupid. Just hard to follow.
Mon. Sept. 18, 1978
It was pouring
down rain when I woke up. Gloomy. Mom drove me down to the bus stop. From the moment I
arose, I was in a dreadful mood. I just couldn't stop thinking about Mark ... I was late
to Art class, I couldn't concentrate in English, and in typing, I kept typing his name
over and over. I got no mail at all. Sandy got rid of a bunch of her old Tiger Beat
magazines on me. There's a few pictures worth keeping. I threw the rest out. Lisa came
down for awhile.
There's a new kind of drink called "Chelsea." It tastes like beer. It's 1/2
of 1% alcohol. I don't like it at all. But it looks cool to drink.
Carter had to have his dumb ol' Press conference tonight, so "WKRP in
Cincinatti" was on 35 minutes later. It's really great!!! Enclosed, you'll find an
article from the t.v. guide about it.
We made an appointment for a photo session for me at Olan Mills for 5:00 October 17th.
Watched the movie "Audrey Rose." It was freaky. I liked it.
Tues. Sept. 19, 1978
Woke up. Didn't want to tho. Took a shower & washed my hair. Broke the shoestring
on my moccasin. Have not been paying attention in Business. Have been falling behind. It
racks my brains. Did nothing in art. In English we have to give a demonstration speech. I
have no idea of what to give it on. I did horrible in typing. I just can't concentrate. In
P.E. I played in a whole game of soccer, and did a pretty good job. I have been debating
on whether or not to get a permanant. As of right now, the answer is "no." I
called the new YMCA in Chilli and signed up for disco dance lessons! I start tomarrow
night at 7:00. Should be great! I helped Lisa with her paper route. It's been in the 90's
today. I tried doing my business math homework, but it screws up my head. I didn't even
look at my English!
Wed. Sept. 20, 1978
Today was miserable. Tonite was fun. I woke up with my period; feeling gross. My whole
body ached (still does!) Mom let me stay home. I washed my hair and spent hours curling it
with the iron. It only lasted about one hour that way, then fell back to it's yucky old
self.
Went up to the mall only to get a new faucet for the kitchen sink. It poured down rain.
Very hot & humid out. Uncurls your hair in a second.
Then, I went to my first disco dance lesson. It was a blast. I love it! I wish it
would've been longer though! I can't wait till next week!
Thu. Sept. 21, 1978
Today was a pretty routine day. School was okay. I didn't dress in P.E. I just didn't
want to. Me & ma went to the Lakeview library where I checked out 2 books. One on a
career as a t.v. or radio announcer and the other simply dealing with a career in
television and radio.
I rode my bike and went skateboarding with Lisa early this evening. I watched
"Mork & Mindy." It was fabulous!!! I absolutely love that show. Robin
Williams, who plays Mork, cracks me up. Watched the continuing story of "Soap."
It's good too.
Fri. Sept. 22, 1978
Today was good. In English, I picked skateboarding safety as my topic.
For some reason, four boys started talking to me in class. Two of them are also doing
speeches on skateboarding. Todd Crose, is one of them. He's kinda cute, I think. I went
with Stacey to Pleasure Island Bowling Alley. Her dad is on a team and watched him bowl.
We played pinball, air hockey, and ate and drank. There was a cute guy there with black
hair, beard & mustache. He was really nice, and helped us with hockey. I missed Jim
Stafford on Sha-na-na, and Leif Garrett on Wonder Woman. Oh well, what the hell?
Sat. Sept. 23, 1978
Today was fun. Ma & dad woke me up at 20 till 9 cuz L.G. called from Pleasant
Grove, and dad wanted me to say "hi." What thrills! Now they say I MUST go with
them down there next month. I don't want to.
Lisa and I skateboarded. I'm getting even better. We were invited to the Brem's. I
didn't go. I made pop-corn, drank sodie, wrote pal letters, and organized pics, and talked
on the phone with Stacey. Now I'm not watching Saturday Nite Live, it's a re-run. I'm
watching "Summer of '42."
Sun. Sept. 24, 1978
Today was pretty fun. The weather was beautiful. Mom & dad went grocery shopping
before I even got up. When I did get up, we went to Tanner's Orchard and got apples, cider
and popcorn. When I got home, I ran my station for a few hours until time to eat. Ma made
some delicious lasagna. I watched a show for the premiere of "Going Coconuts."
The people of interest on it, were Wolfman Jack and Andy Gibb. I read in my radio manual a
few units. Dad explained to me about plate voltage times plate current times the
effeciency factor equals the power out in watts. I did my business homework. Lisa came
down. We skateboarded and I goofed off in my car. I found out how the wipers and turn
signals work. Watched Battle Star Galactica, All in the Family, then Alice.
Mon. Sept. 25, 1978
We had a substitute in Business. In art, me & Cathy made a real good colage. In
English, Pat Golden gave a gross demo speech on first aid. They picked soccer teams in
P.E. I got a bruised hip trying to catch the ball, I ran into someone else who was trying
too. Mom and I went to the mall. I sat out in the back yard in the lovely weather and
studied a bit. Then came in and watched my favorite show "WKRP"
Tue. Sept. 26, 1978
Today was alright. All I ate for lunch was an apple. In P.E., I got more bruises. Me
and ma stopped by Bob and Sharolyn's on the way home. Chaddy was in nursery school. Shar's
new baby is due in November. We are hoping for a girl this time.
I completed Element 1 sucessfully. I'm so proud. I had a horrible head-ache, and was in
a miserable mood. I did my business homework, then watched television.
Wed. Sept. 27, 1978
Today was nice enough. Todd gave his speech on skateboarding. It was good. He's better
than me. I do mine Friday. It was cold enough in P.E., that I wore my sweat-suit and
looked like a baggy idiot. Ma wanted to go to the mall because she bought a purse there
this morning and there was something wrong with it. This morning, ma bought me two scarves
and some Farrah Fawcett shampoo. I skateboarded on the court for awhile. Took a shower and
fixed my hair up. I went to my dance class. It was fun. We learned a few new steps. My
calfs are killing me. I've gained a bit of weight. I had a hell of a time trying to get my
tightest jeans zipped up. I better go back to watching that. After my lesson, we stopped
at Bob and Shar's. Chaddy's getting so big! We looked through a X-mas catalog at the toys
together.
Thu. Sept. 28, 1978
Today was fine. Nothing thrilling or extraordinary. I did a little skateboarding on the
court. Mork & Mindy was good, as usual. Watched Leif Garrett on "Family"
He's alright.
Fri. Sept. 29, 1978
Today was pretty nice. I didn't have to do my speech cuz other people's took too long.
Fine with me. Me and ma went to the mall. She had an appointment to get her hair done at
Penney's. I bought the record "Boogie-oogie-oogie" and since they finally have
C&T's new single out, I bought it too. Dad and I found a better frequency for my
station. It's about 122. I cleaned up a bit of the basement. I got my Social Security Card
in the mail. Stayed up till 12:30 watching Johnny Carson.
Sat. Sept. 30, 1978
Today was nice: Nice and cold that is. I woke up at about 10:10. Mom & dad had
already left on their plane trip for Missouri. I ran my station for a few hours. Lisa came
down. Bob called and wanted Mike to help him with something on his car. We went up there.
I enjoy talking to Sharolyn. She's alot like me. We ate Wendy's at their house. I started
a fire in the fire-place all on my own! (it took me 2 hours though) Mom called to tell me
that they couldn't get a place in Branson, so they are staying in Springfield instead.
Edgar Bergan died today of a heart attack. It's too bad, cuz he was reallly neat. I'm
gonna watch Saturday Night Live, which, for some reason, is on at 11 o'clock tonight. I'm
really enjoying this time alone. |
