The Kdam
The evening was presented by the news host Dalia Mazor and Daniel Pe'er who hosted the 1979 Eurovision in Jerusalem.
The 1983 Kdam contest was perhaps one of the most interesting "Kdams" with the appearance of two of the most popular singers in Israel at that time - Yardena Arazi and Ofra Haza.
Yardena and Ofra were competitive singers and this was an excellent stage for both of them to give the nation a hell of a fight, and that's how it was.
The winner this time was Ofra Haza with her song "Hi" (Alive). Yardena Arazi had to be satisfied with second place with her lovely song "Shiroo Shir Amen" (Sing a Song Amen). The Bomerang group with their song "Ha'agada Al Bell" (The Story About Bell) reached third place.
Avi Toledano, Israel's representive from 1982, who wrote the winning song "Hi" had suggested the song at the first place to Yardena Arazi who came second, but when she refused he moved his offer to Ofra Haza, who finally won...
Other interesting events in this "Kdam" were the attendances of Ilana Avital and Rikki Gal, a first class singers today.
One of the most unforgettable songs in the hisory of the "Kdam" was "Tamid Isha" (Always a Woman) sang by a well-known high-society business woman, Pnina Rosenbloum, which was last. Pnina was the head of a party nominated to the Israeli parliament in the 1999 elections.

The winning song
One of the best appearance of Israel in the Eurovision was this year, with the exellent song "Hai" (Alive) sang by one of the most popular singers in Israel's music histoy, and an international success, Ofra Haza.
The song was a great success in the Eurovision and won the second place with a differance of only 6 points from the winning song which was Luxemburg.
Ofra Haza, the most succesful Israeli singer ever, had died of AIDS on the 23 of February 2000.
