The Kdam
After a year's break from the Eurovision Song Contest, Israel made a successful return.
13 songs had participated in this Kdam, and not 12 like in most years because of the fact that the Kdam-Eurovision committee, which
was supposed to select the 12 songs, have forgotten to hear one song, which was "A'havat David" by Bnot Ya'acov.
When the writers of that song found out about it, they demanded the IBA to add theire song to the Kdam, and that's how "A'havat David"
had entered into the competition without even being selected.
The female trio of Bnot Ya'acov, however, were the remainings of another trio group called Laladin which had quite a few hits in Israel
prior the the 1995 Kdam. One member of Bnot Ya'acov was ill during the contest, so a member of the former Laladin group replaced her during the live
show.
Dana International, a popular dance singer who had once been a man, made her first (stunning) performance on the Kdam stage with a catchy
title called "Laila Tov Eropa". She recieved alot of points, 10 points from almost every voting team, but Liora and her prayer "Amen" had always
recieved more points.
It seems today that this was for the best, as Dana came back to Eurovision in 1998 with a much better song who gave her the victory.
Other interesting artists during the evening were Le'a Loopatin (her 4th appearance in Kdam. Le'a was also a member of Chocolad Menta Mastik, who represented
Israel in 1976) and Ofer Levi, who both had a big hit together in 1995.
Si Heiman is also very familiar to the Israeli audiance as a rock singer, who had alot of success a specially during the 80's.
The winning song
The winning song, "Amen", was sang by a young and unfamiliar singer at the time, that the "Kdam" helped her to get a national recognition.
In the "Kdam" liora sang while many candles surrend her, but the management of the Eurovision in Ireland didn't agree to put the candles in the big show
due to security reasons as they explained, so Liora had to be satasfied with an empty stage, a thing which didn't prevent her from climbing into the eight position.
The song was composed by Moshe Datz, the male singer of Duo Datz, who represented Israel in 1991 with "Kaan".
