The Kdam
The 1993 Kdam had a surprising attendance by two veteran artists - Tzvika Pik who was perhaps Israel's most popular singer during the 70s,
and Sara'le Sharon, a well-known folk singer and the leader of the Shiru group.
The presenter of the evening was Natan Datner, the same Datner who sang the song "Shir Habatlanim" (The Lazy Bums song) in the 1987 Contest.
Other interesting singers were Doron Mazar, his 3rd appearance on Kdam stage, who had reached his usuall 2nd, and Adam, one of
the most popular singers during the 80's in his second try at the Kdam. (the other being in 1991)
I must mention the disgrace of the evening, the song "Markoni" by two famous Israeli actors Effi Ben-Israel and Natan Natanzon. You should have seen it to believe
that such a horrible disgracefull song had entered the competition.
The winning song
The winning song Shiru (Sing) was probably selected because of the gimmick of Sara'le Sharon - a well known folk singer in Israel. Unfortunately
the audiance in Europe was not familiar with that gimmick, and the song recieved only 4 points, which brought Israel straight into the second last
position, and the worst ever Israeli position in Eurovision.
The low position had prevented Israel from entering the contest of the following year.
