Step Five: Hair, Neck, Ear

Ear

We should make a layer behind the face for the ear, neck and main hair. First we will work on the ear. Use a shade a little different than the face(#bf7660). and use a darker stroke at about 4pt and draw your ear.

Now give the ear some lines. Start with the fountain pen at .25pt.

I went on to add a few more lines with no brush and a 2pt stroke. (These are just minor details).

Neck

Now for the neck. A color close to the ear, but slightly off(b27967). The stroke I used Charcoal-Rough at .5px(doesn't matter too much).

Hair

Time for her hair. Using the pen tool, draw her rightside hair. Use around 4 anchor points as illustrated in order to get the desired effect. This will make her hair come to a pointy spike.

Now repeat the process for more spikes.

The other side....Things are finally falling into place.

Her other side is a little bulkier.: But still spikes at the end.
Now for the other spikes
Fill her part with some color. I like red hair. (#993300).
The rest of the hair includes her streaks and bangs. First, make a layer on top of every other layer, since her bangs will go over her head. Using the Dry Brush-Thick at 1px, streak her hair Add some more. Use the Charcoal-Rough and Charcoal 1 brushes (if you wish) to vary the streaks a bit.

Bangs

Her bangs are achieved similairly to her eyelashes. The Tapered-Sharp brush works well. Vary the strokes from .5px to 1px.

CONGRATULATIONS

Emma is pretty much complete. You can clean her up a bit with some finishing touches if you still have the strength. I turned off the path of the head outline and created a couple of other lines for the face edges. I think I may have added some other details around the lips.

You can always add variances as you see fit. For instance, if you prefer brown eyes, they are only several clicks away. (This is The Beauty of Digital)...

Find your own taste and tweak at your own free will. Good Luck...

The image at right shows the layer order that exists in my final version of Emma. As you know, there are many sublevels and sublayers contained within each main layer.
