~ Patrick's Pages ~

Although extremely intelligent, Patrick knew that going directly from high school into college was not for him. He checked out a number of options but kept coming back to his main interest ~ the Marines. He talked to a number of friends, scoped out numerous Marine and Marine-related web sites, then decided the best approach was to go right to the horse's mouth ~ the Marine recruiters.

After discussion of various options Patrick decided that the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) was best for him. Aircraft Mechanics is his chosen Occupational Field. Here's a description of the DEP program from the brochure "Marines: Guaranteed Enlistment Options":

Oh. And when he is ready for college he'll be able to take advantage of some of the wonderful opportunities offered by the Marines!

Delayed Entry Program

"If you're qualified for a particular Enlistment Option and interested in becoming a Marine, but need to get things together or to finish school, consider the Delayed Entry Program. This program allows you to postpone your initial active duty training for up to a year and betters your chance for placement in the occupational field you desire. Though you won't get paid until you start active duty, your participation in the program gives you time to prepare for the challenge of becoming a Marine and counts toward your total military service obligation."

For the curious, and Patrick's mother is of the opinion that most young men and some young woman should be curious, we have provided some USMC related links. But first let's look at what it's like to be a "Poolee" in the Delayed Entry Program!
