Venezuela 2003 - Offshore Islands
Los Roques

These pictures are from Francisquis, one of the northeastern islands in Los Roques, and one of the most crowded on weekends with people flying in and taking water taxis from Gran Roque. Still, its a very pretty place and not to be missed for the very protected anchorage.

These are from the island and town of Gran Roque, the only town in the archipelago and the only island with any sizable hills. The second shot was taken from the top of the hill near the old lighthouse looking out over anchorage. The last shot is a group of Brown Noddies, a type of tern that took over Destiny's bow pulpit. They're pretty but made a mess on the deck.

The first picture is of the beach on Sarqui, which we had to ourselves for some days; quite unusual. The next shots are from Crasqui, with one of the nicest beaches we've seen in the Caribbean.

These pictures are from Carenero, which we also had to ourselves for almost 4 days. The last shot is of a 'Christmas Tree' we found - and Charlie Brown thought his was bare!

Finally, these are of Cayo de Agua, probably the prettiest little group of islands we've ever seen. These pictures don't do it justice - the colors of the water is fantastic. People tell us that the Bahamas look very like this; we've never been there but if they are like this, we'll have to go.
