Bonaire

Bonaire

We left Islas Las Aves de Sotavento, the westernmost offshore islands of Venezuela and came to the Netherlands Antilles island of Bonaire on November 16, 2003. Its a wonderful place - clean, very safe and some of the best diving in the world.

We left on January 8, 2004 for Chichiriviche, on the Venezuelan coast, about 75 miles almost due south. We are planning to come back sometime later in the year.

We made it back on October 25, 2004 after being in Puerto La Cruz for 7 months doing work on the boat and visiting the States. The weather from Las Aves though, didn't cooperate - we had to motor upwind to Bonaire, with steady westerly winds; a rarity here unless there's a hurricane nearby, but we caught them. We left on December 12, heading back to PLC along the coast. Since the weather didn't cooperate much while we were there, we're planning to go back to get some more diving in later in 2005.

We arrived back in Bonaire on September 25, 2005 and after some difficulty with Immigration, stayed until November 12. Although we didn't have to motor upwind to get to Bonaire this year, we did have to motor in mostly light winds. The weather was much better than last year although still not great (I guess its the time of year). We thoroughly enjoyed the diving again, however, and vowed to get an underwater camera before we come back. At this point though, I don't know when that will be.
