Diane's Diary
Martinique - Part 5
5/17 Thursday
We went into the bakery & get our last minute shopping done in the am. We will really miss all the great bread, wine & cheese from the French islands. I don't know how we will go back to eating cereal for breakfast now after all those wonderful croissants. But we will be back sometime next year.
We went snorkeling out near the reef. We were supposed to go with Footloose & another boat but we got our signals crossed & we went to another spot. This was the spot Club Med had brought us snorkeling to all those years ago. It was ok snorkeling but a lot of the coral was broken. I know it was definitely not like this when I was here last. We took turns snorkeling as we did not want to leave the dinghy unattended in case it broke loose & drifted away. Now that would have been a long swim back!
We stayed around an hour or so, then went back to the boat for lunch. After lunch we cleaned the water line & we both dove on the bottom. I need 4lb weights to keep me down but we will have to buy more weights so Larry can stay down better.
Autumn Wind asked us to go out to dinner with them but we declined as we are leaving for St. Lucia very early in the morning & want a good nights sleep.
5/18 Friday
We had the anchor up by 6:10 & were out of the anchorage with the sails up by 6:30am. We actually had a beautiful crossing & one of the first passages in awhile I haven't gotten sick on. We had SE winds about 15-18 knots with seas up to around 6 feet. We were in St. Lucia by 9:30! As soon as we turned the corner into Rodney Bay, the wind in this anchorage started to howl- about 20-25 knots inside the bay. We set the hook down near S/V Kajsa- we met them back in Anse Mitan. We washed the boat down with our sun shower. Larry thought of this idea to get the salt water off the boat after a passage & it was a great idea. We put the sail cover on the boat. Then we discovered the windlass is leaking again & our bed was soaked. He thought he fixed the problem in Marin too.
We launched the dinghy but by this time it was too late to clear customs by lunchtime. So, we ate lunch & then went into customs. After we cleared in, we walked around the marina a bit but we were tired so came back to the boat. We relaxed the rest of the day.
