Hospital The Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT) was founded by Swami Rama in 1989, in Jolly Grant, India, near Rishikesh, Dehra Dun, and Haridwar, Uttaranchal state. Though it started as a modest out patient clinic, it is now a complete medical city, including a 750-bed, full-service hospital, and a medical college with some 500 students. The Himalayan Institute Hospital and Medical City is the only such facility in the state of Uttaranchal. There are also social development programs incorporating medical care, education, and research. There is a holistic health program, an ayurvedic treatment center, a school of nursing, a rural development institute, and accommodations for staff, students, and the families of patients. The Himalayan Institute Hospital is in a region where there are extremely poor people, who have little or no money for medical care.
