Responses to This year's (?) Topic
"Don Rider, K-Mart Shopper" writes in:
I'm not too clear on the entire Carrot-Bird thing. I take it this was a movie
[Tony] and Jay made a while back? Is Carrot-Bird a plain-old noun as in, "I
have a Carrot-Bird. It's name is Bob." or a proper-noun such as "I have a Bob.
It's name is Carrot-Bird"? That could affect my opinion of the hyphen debate,
although I'll no doubt be inclined to agree with [Tony]...
"Swamp Thing" had this to say:
I'm for "Carrot-Bird." but I would like to add a word of caution
concerning the natural evolution of the English language. Take,
for instance, the popular term "livingroom." In years past, it was
"living room," evolving around the early 1900s to "living-room,"
and finally, in our culture of compression, "livingroom." The same
has happened with "today": first, "to day," next, "to-day," and now,
"today." Are you prepared to see "carrot-bird" move to "carrotbird"
as society pulls language change along with it on its journey?
Please consider this.

It is the belief of this individual that hyphenating Carrot Bird would
be a grave mistake. The fact that you have even given the option of
hyphenating represents your lack of mastery of the English language.
As far as I can see there is no actual Birdus Avius of the genus
Carrota, therefore hyphenating the name would be done only by a complete
bafoon!
Hyphens are reserved for conjuncting words that describe an actual
physical object, of which there is none present, i.e, ergo, QED.

Kaleidoscopes weren't meant for two. War and recognition should never
be discarded. Battles are often fought in senseless harmony. A war of words
is fought in a meaningless language. Hyphens not only separate, but unite.
Two words peacefully joined as one. Empty spaces only provoke confusion and
hopelessness. Fear of the void. You have been warned.

Hi Tony, God here. Just letting you know that I created the Carrot-Bird,
and I intended the creature to have a hyphenated name. Have a nice day.
