Buffy, the Vampire Slayer

1992. The Movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer, staring Luke Perry, Donald Sutherland, and the sexy Kristy Swanson as Buffy premiers to dismal reviews and a lackluster box-office performance. I don't see it, although I kinda wanted to, there were a lot of other movies to see first. Flash forward to 1997. The WB, of such quality programming as Nick Freno, Licensed Teacher, Sister Sister, and the always touching Unhappily Ever After, premiers a television show based on the movie. I think to myself "scraping the bottom of the entertainment barrel now, aren't we?"

However, the show did have one thing going for it: it's star was the lovely Sarah Michelle Gellar, most recognized for her work as Kendall Hart on the ABC soap opera All my Children. Now I never watched AMC. However, I had always followed the career of its diva star, Susan Lucci, who's been nominated for an emmy 18 (19?) times, and lost every single time. I remember the year Lucci went conspicuously un-nominated, her younger costar Sarah Michelle won for younger actress. I also have a distinct memory of Kendall Hart because my friend Jared watched the show, and was obsessed with her (I remember he had a AMC photo album, and he used to look at the full sized picture of Sarah Michelle and say "Kendall Kendall Kendall Kendall Kendall Kendall Kendall Kendall Kendall...") It was sort of amusing. So I decided to catch an episode. That episode was Angel, and the rest, they say, is history...
