THE HARBOR CLUB/SAME EVENING
The foursome are eating their dinners, and talking quickly to one
another. As LILA and MATT finish a discussion about Jasmine
walking soon, CASS reaches into his briefcase and pulls out a
package, handing it to Lila.
CASS
I stopped by the house to pick up the mail. This was waiting for
you.
Lila takes the package, scrutinizing it.
LILA
There's no return address.
CASS
Where's the postmark from?
LILA
Chicago.
She takes the paper off of the box, setting it aside. As she
opens it, she finds a small jewel box.
CASS
(with mock jealousy)
Do you have a secret admirer I don't know about?
LILA
(laughing)
Only in my dreams, Cass.
She opens the jewel box to discover a small, heart-shaped pendant
on a slender gold chain. Lifting it out of the box, she stares at
it.
MATT
Do you recognize it?
LILA
(softly)
I can't believe it.
LORNA
What is it?
LILA
This...this chain. And the pendant. I've seen them before. When I
was a little girl. My mother used to have one exactly like it.
CASS
Are you sure? Why would you be getting on in the mail?
LILA
I don't know. Maybe someone who knew her sent it.
CASS
Where did your mother get the pendant?
LILA
An old boyfriend. Someone she knew before I was born.
CASS
Is that all you know about him?
LILA
That's all. I guess someone just sent me this as a reminder of my
mother. Maybe it's an old friend from New Orleans who knew her.
Anyway, it's nothing to worry about.
She puts the pendant into her purse.
CUT TO:
JOE AND PAULINA'S/SAME EVENING
REMY crosses her arms across her chest.
REMY
What are you saying?
NICK
I'm saying I'm tired of coming second in your life.
REMY
You don't. You know I love you.
NICK
No, I don't know that, because everytime I turn around, you're
with that creep.
REMY
Stop it.
NICK
Remy, I've had enough. I'm sick of him always being around.
REMY
What do you want me to do?
NICK
I want you to tell him to get lost.
REMY
No. You can't choose my friends, Nick.
NICK
No, but I can choose my girlfriend based on her friends.
REMY
What? What does that means?
NICK
It means if you don't get rid of that loser, then I'm gone. I
mean it, Remy. I can't be with you when you're always around him.
So choose. It's him or me.
Remy is stunned at his announcement.
CUT TO:
CORY MANSION/SAME EVENING
CARL walks into the living room, where AMANDA is waiting
impatiently for him, tapping her foot. CHRIS stands back from the
two of them, wanting to remain out of the crossfire.
CARL
I'm glad to see that you're back, Amanda.
AMANDA
(coldly)
You may not be when you hear what I have to say.
CARL
Why don't you sit down first? If you're going to rake me over the
coals, at least do it comfortably.
Amanda sits on the couch, crossing her arms over her chest. She
glares at Carl.
AMANDA
We found some interesting information in New Orleans, Carl.
Something you could have told us.
CARL
I thought it was in your best interest not to know.
AMANDA
My husband is murdered working for you and you think it's best
that I don't know? That's inane, even coming from you.
RACHEL walks into the room, stopping short as she sees the
threesome.
RACHEL
Amanda, you're back!
AMANDA
Hi, Mom. Yes, I'm back, and I have a few things to clear up with
Carl. Did he ever tell you that he used to work with Reginald
Love way back when?
Rachel is struck speechless.
AMANDA(cont'd)
He never told you that, did he? And he probably never told you
that because he knew how you felt about old Reg.
CARL
Amanda...there's more to it than you think.
AMANDA
Then why don't you TELL me what that MORE is, Carl? Don't sit
here and play games with me! I'm so past the games, and if you
don't tell me, I WILL find out what happened in New Orleans
thirty years ago. Believe me.
She stops her diatribe, but doesn't take her eyes off of Carl.
CUT TO:
THE DAILY GRIND/DAY
TITO walks into the coffee shop, a bit nervous upon seeing KC and
HAYLEY chatting. He walks over and greets them, trying to act
nonchalant.
TITO
Hello again, ladies. My meeting with my counselor was quick, so I
thought I'd see if you were both still here. Looks like I was
right.
KC nods.
KC
As a matter of fact, Hayley and I were having a nice chat.
Tito looks nervous and clears his throat.
TITO
Anything in particular?
Before KC can answer, Hayley responds.
HAYLEY
No. Not really. But it seems that KC and I have some common
interests...about may things, it seems.
At the last sentence, Tito and Hayley stare at the other. KC
looks at them, a bit confused.
HAYLEY
Anyway, I'd better go. I feel tired all of a sudden.
As she pushes back her chair and stands, Hayley suddenly clutches
her abdomen and lets out a cry. As she wobbles, Tito catches her
as she begins to collapse. KC comes around the other side.
KC
Hayley! Hayley, are you okay?
Hayley begins to cry.
HAYLEY
It hurts! Oh, Tito, it hurts. Please don't let it be my baby.
TITO
Shh. Shh, Hayley. I'll take care of you. It's gonna be okay.
As a crowd of people gather round in curiosity, Tito yells out.
TITO(cont'd)
Call an ambulance. Now!!!
As KC and Tito try to calm a hysterical Hayley, they gaze across
at each other, fearfully, as we
