JAKE AND VICKY'S/SAME EVENING
Sean manages to gather his voice.
SEAN
Where did you get that?
VICKY
Your cousins found it in your room.
SEAN
Maybe you should talk to them about not going into my room.
VICKY
Maybe you should explain why this was in your room in the first
place.
SEAN
I just got it from a friend. I haven't even tried it.
VICKY
You just took it but you don't intend to try it?
JAKE
Come on, Sean. You're not talking to idiots here.
SEAN
Look, I told you. I got it from a friend, I kept it in my room.
Now you either believe me or you don't.
VICKY
Fine, then you won't mind a drug test.
SEAN
Like hell I will.
JAKE
What's wrong? If you haven't done drugs, you have nothing to
worry about.
SEAN
It's an invasion of privacy! Why can't you just take my word for
it?
VICKY
Because we were once your age too. We know all the tricks and the
lies. We can see right through you.
SEAN
You're just looking for some reason to blame me.
VICKY
You know, you're right. I woke up this morning and thought
"What can I yell at Sean about? Oh, I know, let me plant
drugs in his room, have the boys find it, then blame him for
it."
SEAN
I'm outta here.
Sean starts to leave, but Jake stops him.
JAKE
You're not going anywhere until we're finished talking about
this.
VICKY
There are two other kids in this house. I don't want any drugs
here. Is that understood?
SEAN
I don't answer to you, Vicky.
JAKE
Like hell you don't.
SEAN
She's been on my case since I got here! She hates me and she's
just trying to start something.
JAKE
That's enough, Sean. When Vicky says something, you do it.
SEAN
So you're agreeing with her?
JAKE
About drugs in the house? Yes, I am. About you using drugs, if
you weren't, you wouldn't be as defensive as you are, would you?
SEAN
I'm defensive because those little brats went through my stuff
and no one seems to even care about that.
JAKE
Don't talk about your cousins like that.
SEAN
And of course, you're on their side. Why do I even bother?
Sean runs upstairs as Jake starts to go after him, but Vicky
grabs his arm.
VICKY
Let's let him cool off for a while.
She puts the pot in a drawer in the hutch.
CUT TO:
JOE AND PAULINA'S/SAME NIGHT
NICK waits for REMY'S answer.
REMY
I can't believe you're serious.
NICK
What did you expect?
REMY
Please don't do this. Don't put me in this position, Nick.
NICK
It's the only way, Remy. I can't handle seeing you with him,
knowing what he did to you.
REMY
Don't you think it should be my decision?
NICK
I think I should have a say, since I only care about your
well-being.
REMY
So does Tito.
NICK
Oh, God, Remy! Are you blind? Open your eyes!
REMY
Stop judging him. He's my friend, Nick.
NICK
You know, maybe if you tell yourself that enough, you'll believe
it.
REMY
You know what, maybe we shouldn't talk about this right now. I
think you should go.
NICK
Not until you answer my question. Him or me?
REMY
Don't do this to me!
NICK
I'm doing it, Remy. Choose.
REMY
You're putting me in a very awkward position, Nick.
NICK
I'm doing it because I love you. Come on, you know I love you.
(Nick puts his hands on Remy's cheeks). I'd do anything for you.
I think Tito is using you. I have to step in.
REMY
No, you don't. I'm a big girl.
NICK
Remy, the sooner you choose me, the sooner we can drop this
topic.
REMY
You're serious about this. If I continue my friendship with him,
we're through?
NICK
Yeah.
REMY
Well, I guess I have no choice.
NICK
That's more like it.
REMY
Goodbye, Nick.
NICK
What?
REMY
I have no intention of dumping Tito. I'm sorry you can't accept
that, but I'm not going to make you stay in this relationship.
NICK
That's it? He wins?
REMY
It's not about winning or losing! It's about me! This is my life
and I get to choose who I'm friends with.
NICK
Fine. I hope you're satisfied with your choice.
Nick storms out of the house. As he leaves, Remy sinks to the
couch and begins to cry.
CUT TO:
THE HARBOR CLUB/SAME EVENING
The dishes have been cleared from the table, and the foursome
sits with small silver dishes of ambrosia in front of them.
CASS
(To Lila and Lorna)
I'm glad you two have gotten to know each other a little better.
You've got a lot in common.
LILA
(To Lorna)
Did you ever forge a letter?
LORNA
(with a grin)
No, but I put a fake porno video of my sister, Jenna, on my
mother's television show.
LILA
(laughing)
Okay, you've got me beat hands down. And they think I'm so bad in
this town....
MATT
You guys could have a competition, and it'd be a difficult
decision for the judges.
As both Lorna and Lila throw him a dirty look, a cell phone
rings. Lorna reaches for her bag.
LORNA
It's mine. (She puts the phone to her ear) Lorna Devon....who is
this?...Why are you calling me at this number?...oh, my God...
Matt puts a hand on her arm.
LORNA (cont'd)
Where are you having them take her? I'll be right there...God,
tell her to hang on.
She snaps the phone shut, standing up violently.
MATT
What? What's going on?
LORNA
It's Hayley. That was Tito. They were at the Daily Grind and
Hayley collapsed...he said she was in a lot of pain and she was
crying and screaming. I have to get to the hospital, I have to be
with her!
She grabs her bag, and Matt stands with her.
MATT
Come on. I'll drive you. Cass, Lila, sorry to run---
CASS
Go...Lorna, do you want me to call Felicia?
LORNA
(close to tears)
Please, Cass?
CASS
Consider it done. Go be with Hayley.
He pushes her gently, and Matt leads her out. Cass and Lila look
at one another.
CASS (cont'd)
I'll call Felicia.
He pulls out his cell phone to dial and we:
FADE OUT
