THE DAILY GRIND/DAY
HAYLEY and TITO are still having a serious discussion about the
baby.
TITO
Hayley, I do respect your decision. I just don't see you
respecting mine.
Hayley is now sipping a glass of water. She gives a weary sigh
and puts a hand protectively over her belly.
HAYLEY
Tito, this is about the baby...not our own feelings.
TITO
But...
Just then, the door opens. KC walks in, a little less agitated
than before. Seeing Tito, KC is glad and walks over, before Tito
can say anything more to Hayley.
KC
Tito, we meet again!
Tito is a bit disconcerted, but manages a grin.
TITO
Yeah, hey KC.
Tito nervously introduces KC and Hayley.
TITO
KC, meet Hayley. Hayley, KC.
KC smiles and holds out her hand.
KC
Nice to meet you.
Hayley shyly shakes KC's proffered hand.
HAYLEY
Same here.
KC suddenly notices Tito's discomfort.
KC
If I'm interrupting something...
Tito acts casual...or attempts to.
TITO
No, everything's cool. Isn't it, Hayley?
As Hayley gives a wan smile to KC, we
CUT TO:
THE HARBOR CLUB/SAME EVENING
LORNA takes a sip of her wine as LILA waits for an explanation of
her last remark.
LORNA
I didn't know my father---either of my parents, actually---until
I was an adult. About eight years ago.
LILA
But you and Felicia seem so close.
LORNA
(laughing)
Believe me, we had to work at it. Big time. I never wanted to be
her daughter, I never even knew I was adopted. My adoptive
parents were killed when I was little and my grandmother raised
me.
LILA
So that would explain why you refer to her as Felicia sometimes.
LORNA
That would explain it. I love her, but calling her Mom doesn't
always come naturally to me.
LILA
You were lucky to get a second chance. By finding her, I mean.
I'd give anything to have a second chance with my mother.
LORNA
(softly)
What happened to her?
LILA
She was murdered when I was just a little girl.
LORNA
Oh, Lila, I'm so sorry.
LILA
(shrugging)
It's okay. I've had a long time to get used to it. One thing I've
figured out about family is that I have to concentrate on now.
Speaking of now, how's your sister doing?
LORNA
(sighing)
I don't know. On the outside, she seems fine, like everything is
all right. But I keep having to remind myself that this is the
only Hayley I know. I don't have a past personality to rely on.
One thing I do know is that I love her...and I want to help her
get through all of this.
LILA
Do you think you'll be able to deal with her giving the baby up,
since you were adopted?
LORNA
(nodding)
It's a different situation, and it's Hayley's decision. I want to
support her, even if I don't agree with her.
As they continue talking, we
CUT TO:
JAKE AND VICKY'S/DAY
CHRIS and AMANDA are still sitting with a shaken DONNA, VICKY,
and JAKE. Vicky was noticed as being lost in thought and has been
asked what is troubling her.
VICKY
Well, I didn't think anything of it at the time. I mean, Reginald
was dead...
JAKE
Anything of *what*?
Donna turns to Vicky, looking alarmed.
DONNA
Victoria?
Chris and Amanda glance at each other; Chris gently coaxes Vicky
for details.
CHRIS
What happened?
VICKY
Nothing! Except...
AMANDA
Except...?
VICKY
Do I have an echo? Look, Kirkland saw a photo. He recognized the
man as a man he saw in the hospital, the one who brought me the
flowers. The photo was Reginald. But I told him that Reg was
dead.
JAKE
Why didn't you tell me?
VICKY
Because, until now, I thought there wasn't anything *to* tell!
Chris and Amanda stand.
AMANDA
If this is true...
Chris thanks Vicky. Amanda turns to Chris.
AMANDA
I think we should talk to Mom and Carl.
CHRIS
Okay, let's go.
Chris waves to Jake.
CHRIS
I'll talk to you later.
JAKE
Count on it.
As the door closes, Donna is holding her glass of wine, her hand
trembling.
DONNA
Oh, God! What if it is true? What if Reginald is still alive?
As Jake and Vicky look at each other and then at Donna in
concern, we
