BC TRAIN STATION/NIGHT
ALLI taps her fingers on the arm of the hard, plastic chair that
she's sitting in. SEAN sits next to her, staring across the room.
Neither seems to be very comfortable. Finally, Alli speaks.
ALLI
How come you've never told me about your mother?
SEAN
You never asked.
ALLI
Would you have told me if I did?
SEAN
(glancing up at her)
Try me.
ALLI
So...what happened to your mother?
SEAN
(uncomfortably)
She died. Before I got sent to live with Jake and Vicky. Cancer.
ALLI
I'm sorry, Sean. That must've been really hard.
SEAN
(shrugging)
I've had time to get used to it.
ALLI
What was she like? Your mom...was she like you?
SEAN
Not really. I mean, she was cool and all...and we got along. She
wasn't some overbearing parent who had to know where I was every
second of the day...and we had fun together.
ALLI
Do you miss her?
Sean is silent for a minute, his head down. Alli can't tell if
she's overstepped her bounds or not.
ALLI (cont'd)
You don't have to tell me if you don't want to...I was just
wondering...
SEAN
(quietly)
Yeah. I miss her. More than anyone's ever going to know.
ALLI
What about your dad? Don't you want to get to know him?
SEAN
I don't know...I mean, we've only met a couple of times, and that
was in prison. He seemed like a nice enough guy. I can't really
believe that he and Jake are brothers. But...did you know my dad?
You lived here when he did.
ALLI
I guess so....but I was little. I don't really remember him.
SEAN
Well, it's not a big deal anymore, I guess. He's not even getting
out of jail for awhile.
ALLI
(changing subject)
Hey, are you hungry? Let's go get something to eat before the
diner closes. Our train doesn't leave for another hour.
She leads Sean over to the diner.
CUT TO:
BCUH/SAME NIGHT
LORNA, MATT, JOSIE, and GARY sit on the chairs of the hospital
waiting room. Matt, Gary, and Josie sit near one another, but
Lorna is slumped in a chair on the other side of the room, her
head in her hands. Matt stands up and walks over to her. As he
sits next to her, she doesn't lift her head, but starts speaking
quietly.
LORNA
Do you know what happened the last time I signed a consent form
as next-of-kin? I signed one when Lucas was shot. I let them take
him into surgery. I let them perform surgery on him, and in the
end, he died. I lost my father because I signed that paper. Now I
could lose my sister, too.
MATT
You signed this paper because it's in Hayley's best interest. You
are doing what's best for her. You can't predict what's going to
happen in surgery.
LORNA
(looking up at him)
I just found her, Matt. How can I let her go already?
Matt puts his arms around her and she rests her head on his
chest.
MATT
You aren't. She's not going anywhere.
As they sit, the door to the waiting room opens and FELICIA
rushes in, followed by SERGEI.
FELICIA
Lorna, honey? What's happened? How's Hayley?
Lorna flies into Felicia's arms.
LORNA
Oh, Mom…the baby…it's a boy and he's fine. But Hayley,
Hayley's not doing well and John said she's lost a lot of blood
and she could die.
FELICIA
Oh, God…
SERGEI
She will be fine. I know Hayley, she is fighter. She would not
leave family behind, not family who loves her.
LORNA
She's only REALLY been a part of our family for three months,
Mom. Has it really been such a short amount of time? I feel like
she's been with us forever.
FELICIA
She fit in well…she belongs with our family.
The room falls into silence as the door opens and Morgan walks
in. He approaches Lorna and Felicia.
MORGAN
There's no change with Hayley. But I thought you'd like to see
your nephew. He's in the nursery.
LORNA
(smiling)
Actually, I would love to see him. When can I see Hayley?
MORGAN
Soon. Come on, let's go see the baby.
Morgan leads her out of the room and Felicia turns to Matt.
FELICIA
She's not doing well.
MATT
(shaking his head)
She was talking about Luke…how this is just like Lucas, she
signed the consent forms for both surgeries---
FELICIA
I don't know if she can handle another loss, Matt. She still
hasn't recovered from losing Gabe.
Felicia doesn't notice the stricken look that crosses Matt's
face.
FELICIA(cont'd)
I think I'll head to the cafeteria and stock up on coffee and
pastries for everyone. It's going to be a long night.
Felicia leaves and Matt quietly watches her go.
CUT TO:
BAY CITY TOWERS-PENTHOUSE B/SAME NIGHT
VICKY stands in front of the doorway, her hand poised to knock.
She takes a deep breath, then knocks on the door. It opens, and
PARKER stands in front of her.
PARKER
Victoria. I'm glad you decided to come. I'm Parker.
VICKY
You're who I talked to on the phone?
PARKER
I am. You're just as beautiful as your picture. Reginald told me
that you were a rare beauty.
VICKY
What do you mean, Reginald TOLD you? Reginald is dead. He fell.
There's no way that he could be alive.
PARKER
You've underestimated your grandfather, Victoria. He's very much
alive and he very much wants to see you.
VICKY
Prove it. I don't believe a word that you're saying. My
grandfather died.
PARKER
(sighing)
I can see that you're not going to take my word for it unless you
see him with your own eyes.
VICKY
You've got that right. And who the hell are you, anyway?
PARKER
I'm your grandfather's assistant. Actually, my credentials are in
nursing, which is why he employed me, but over the past few
years, he's taken me under his wing as a business associate.
VICKY
(annoyed)
Okay. Whatever. Just tell me what you need to tell me and let me
get the hell out of here.
PARKER
(nodding)
This way, Victoria.
Parker leads Vicky through the penthouse, into the next room. She
sees a desk with a large chair, it's back to her.
PARKER (cont'd)
Sir?
The chair turns around to reveal Reginald and Vicky gasps.
REGINALD
Hello, Victoria, my love. I've missed you.
Vicky is speechless.
