BC TRAIN STATION/NIGHT

ALLI and SEAN are standing in front of a schedule listing for the trains. Sean keeps glancing at Alli, who doesn't take her eyes off of the schedule. Finally, he grows exasperated.

SEAN
Alli...come on. Pick one.

ALLI
I'm thinking! Give me a minute, will ya?

SEAN
You really have to pick one soon. Otherwise, we're going to miss the last train and be stuck here forever.

ALLI
You're overreacting. Okay, where do you want to go?

SEAN
I don't know...how about New York?

ALLI
(shaking her head)
I've been there. I want to go somewhere I've never been before.

SEAN
So...where haven't you been?

Alli watches the screen a minute, then takes a finger and points to a word.

ALLI
There. I want to go here.

SEAN
Seattle?

ALLI
(smiling)
Yep. Seattle.

SEAN
(uncertain)
That's a long train ride, Al...

ALLI
So? You're up for it, aren't you? Or are you going to chicken out? You told me to choose, I chose. Now you have to accept my decision.

SEAN
(grinning)
Okay. Let's go buy our tickets then.

They walk towards the ticketing counter.

CUT TO:

JAKE AND VICKY'S HOUSE/SAME NIGHT

VICKY walks down the stairs, a book in her hand. Upstairs, we can hear Jake and the boys wrestling.

VICKY
(calling upstairs)
Come on, you guys...hit the sack! You still have school tomorrow!

KIRKLAND AND STEVEN (off-screen)
Aww, Mom! Come on! Just a few more minutes!

JAKE (O.S.)
Yeah, Mom....just a few more minutes?

Vicky laughs as she comes to the bottom of the stairs.

VICKY
All right...five more minutes, but that's it! No more!

JAKE, STEVEN, and KIRKLAND (O.S.)
Thanks, Mom!

Vicky walks to the sofa, talking quietly to herself as she sits.

VICKY
(to herself)
Okay, girls...you need names. If you hear anything you like, just give me a good swift kick in the belly, all right?

She opens the baby name book and begins to read.

VICKY (cont'd)
Grace, Madeline, Brianne...I kind of like that one---

She's interrupted by the telephone ringing. Turning around, she grabs for it.

VICKY (cont'd)
Hello?

The voice on the other end is that of Parker's, Reginald's assistant.

PARKER
Mrs. McKinnon?

VICKY
This is Mrs. McKinnon.

PARKER
Mrs. McKinnon, you don't know me, but I once knew your grandfather, Reginald. I have some information about him for you.

VICKY
My grandfather? You must be mistaken. Reginald is dead.

PARKER
On the contrary, Mrs. McKinnon, he's very much alive. Didn't your young son come in contact with him at the hospital?

VICKY
Reginald is DEAD. He was killed over ten years ago!

PARKER
Mrs. McKinnon, I have some information that you desperately need to know. Can you meet me at the Bay City Towers, penthouse B? I promise you, you will not come to any harm.

VICKY
I don't even know you...why would I meet you?

PARKER
Your family's future could depend on it. Please, Mrs. McKinnon. Come in thirty minutes.

As Vicky sits speechless, there is a click on the other end of the line. She waits a moment, then jumps up, grabbing her coat. Scribbling a short note on a pad of paper, she looks up the stairs.

VICKY
(calling upstairs)
Jake! I need to go out for a while. I'll be back soon!

Without waiting for a response, she leaves.

CUT TO:

WAITING ROOM/SAME NIGHT

LORNA is sitting with MATT, her eyes half-closed. She jerks awake as GARY and JOSIE approach.

JOSIE
Lorna! How's Hayley?

Lorna stands and hugs Josie, then Gary.

LORNA
I don't know. They've been in surgery for almost two hours but we haven't heard anything.

GARY
What about the baby?

LORNA
The heartbeat was a little erratic, which is why they wanted to go ahead with the C-section.

JOSIE
They'll both be fine. John knows exactly what he's doing.

LORNA
I know. It's just…the waiting…it's really hard.

MATT
(putting his arm around her shoulder)
Which is why we're all going to wait with you.

GARY
(looking around)
Speaking of 'all'…what's Banacek doing here?

LORNA
(looking over at Tito, who gives her a pleading look)
Oh, Tito. He was with Hayley when she went into labor.

JOSIE
So why is he still here? Are they friends?

LORNA
(hesitantly)
Actually, Josie…Tito is the baby's father.

Before a stunned Gary and Josie can reply to this, JOHN and MORGAN come out of the delivery room.

LORNA
John, Morgan, how is she? And the baby?

Morgan and John exchange a look before Morgan answers.

MORGAN
The baby is fine. It's a healthy baby boy. He's being checked out since he IS a little early, but he seems to be perfect.

Josie and Gary both look at each other with small smiles, reaching for each other's hands.

MATT
And Hayley? What about Hayley?

JOHN
Hayley began hemorrhaging in the middle of the surgery. She lost a lot of blood, her blood pressure plummeted, and she flatlined.

LORNA
(stunned)
Oh, my God…

JOHN
We got her heart started beating again and she's stabilized. But right now, Lorna….she's critical. And it doesn't look good. I'm sorry.

Lorna is silent, her face devastated at the news.

MATT
So what does that mean, John? She could die?

JOHN
It's possible. We're doing everything we can for her. She's just going to have to fight.

LORNA
Can I see the baby?

MORGAN
They'll be bringing him to the nursery soon. You can see him then. As soon as Hayley is set up in the ICU, I'll take you to see her.

LORNA
Thank you.

As Morgan and John leave, Matt tries to comfort Lorna but she holds up a hand to him and walks away, obviously wanting to be alone. Josie and Gary are somber at the news of Hayley, but their faces reflect joy at the birth of the baby. Tito just watches the scene quietly.
