Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1Peter 3.15

June 2001 Newsletter

Dear  Ministry Partner,

We are glad to inform you that our ministry has already birth its own website through the help of a brother who assisted in founding The Bereans: A.R.M. last 1995.  You can now access our website through the internet at http://theBereans.frontpew.com.   We have included the ministry profile, its vision and mission, doctrinal and cult-related articles, web links, and a lot more!  This was formed to reach Filipinos in a global scale.  You will probably notice that our cult profiles are not yet exhaustive.  But God willing we will be able to inform you of every known cult possible soon. We have also opened our own Post Office Box to meet the need of those who have no access through the internet.  For inquiries, questions and comments, we can be reached at: PO Box 221 Ayala, Alabang PO 1799 Muntinlupa City.

The Lord is faithfully meeting the financial need of the ministry by an increase in the monthly pledges. These brethren knew the importance of this work in equipping Filipino pastors and lay leaders. They understand that informing the public of the dangers of cults may lead them to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  One Christian shares her experience in the ministry:

“I became a Christian at 9 years old. I grew up knowing the truth about salvation and having the heart to share it. I was also seeking effective ways to do it. I grew up in a Christian Family, which somehow sheltered me from the beliefs of others. This background had somehow created a frame of mind in me, something I did not intend to have, towards the belief of others. Not condemning, but something that pushes me to assert my faith, in some way, but also tending to be passive  by letting them be if they have their own. I had a growing knowledge of God and His Word, plus an undying passion to share Jesus and the gift of salvation He has offered. However, as I grew and mature in the faith, God, in His graciousness humbled me and allowed me to also have a growing passion to share Him, not only to those whose faith are near mine and who would easily accept the principles of things like the crucifixion of Jesus, salvation, Heaven and many others but also to those who clearly do not believe on the truths as said in the Bible . With this, I had a desire to be equipped since I have been meeting friends of a different faith. If before I was led to just let them be and not share my faith since they have their own, now I have realized that I must share Christ to them too.

“I came to be part of The Bereans: Apologetics Research Ministry. This ministry has helped me so much to understand the ‘cults of Christianity’ It has taught me how to approach people who come from different faiths. It has taught me to understand cultists coming from where they are, then leading them to think about their own faith and eventually lead them to the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and why He died on the cross.  This ministry has helped me be knowledgeable about the beliefs of different cults of Christianity. Our meetings and studies have helped me discern which groups teach biblically or otherwise. This ministry has moved me to really pray for the souls of these people and also for myself and those Christians who are burdened to share with them. It is a realization for me to clearly see that the battle is indeed spiritual, and only the hand of God could move in the hearts of these people involved in these cults.

“I’ve learned how important it is to respond in a gentle but firm manner. Patience is a very important virtue too. Through The Bereans: Apologetics Research Ministry, I’ve seen the other side of misled people, however I’ve also seen the miracle of seeing God working through their hearts in a very slow but enduring manner. Moreover, I’ve encountered God in a very special way, by seeing Him as a very gracious, loving and patient God, who never gives up on people.”

Faith K. M. (Project 8, QC)

This is one letter that encourages the ministry to continue on with its vision and mission. I also remember one instance in the early part of the ministry that “Leah”, a zealous MMCC leader came to acknowledge that salvation is only by grace through faith in Christ alone and not through water baptism. We had to seat with her every week explaining the truth of the Scripture. Since then, she was used by the Lord in leading other MMCC members out of the cult into the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ. Another wonderful thing happened when a man approached me in the church telling that he was enlightened by the gospel message while I was sharing with a JW family inside their own house. That male person was the JW family’s visitor and is now attending a local Christian church in Bulacan. Stories like this can go on if we see the importance of sharing the gospel with the cultist, not for arguments  sake (1Pet. 3:15) but for love (2 Cor. 5:14) and compassion (Mat.9:36).

By next month, I will inform you about the different set of tracts that could be available in one of the leading Christian bookstore in the Philippines. Please pray that these set of informative tracts for cult evangelism will be available to help equip and train Christian believers to reason from the Scripture, as well as, enlighten the thousands of Filipino cultist in our country. Pray also for the Lords protection to be upon us even as we expose the deception of strong political cult groups in our nation.

The Lord be praised for all the things that He is doing.

Contending for the Faith,

The Bereans, Coordinator
