Allied Order of Battle
It needs to be understood that a Canadian Regiment and a German Regiment were not the same thing. A Canadian Regiment was a battalion. While it was not uncommon in WWII that the 1st Battalion of a regiment served with the Expeditionary Force (Canadian Army Overseas) and the 2nd Battalion in Home Defence, they are rarely referred to as such. The Canadian Regiments listed here are in fact battalion sized formations. Furthermore only the combat elements went to Dieppe, the administrative elements of each unit remained at home, the Bren gun carriers were also left behind, the only heavy weapons the units took ashore were mortars. While some artillerymen were included, they were unarmed as they were brought along to operate captured German artillery.
