Donkey Kong Classic
Donkey Kong was an arcade game that came out on NES in the eighties. You played as a carpenter (yes, he was a carpenter in the early eighties) named Mario, who was on a mission to stop the ape Donkey Kong from capturing that girl. I forget her name. Anyhow, Mario went through three of Donkey Kong's setups to try to save the girl, each one of them harder than the last.
The game had super cheesy graphics and if you fall from the slightest height, you died. But it was fun. In the eighties people weren't as experienced with video games.

Donkey Kong's counterpart, Donkey Kong JR. is another chapter of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong saga. In this game, you play as Donkey Kong's son. DK has been imprisoned by Mario and Mario has unleashed alligators (Kremlings in the new games), birds, and whatever else he had to slow your adventure down. So Mario plays the bad guy in this game. Or is it you playing the bad guy? Either way, the game is fun.
In DK JR, you are still killed if you fall from the slightest height, but in this game, you can climb vines and swing through the trees to reach your goal.

Both of these games are excellent classics and are very fast pace in spite of the 8-bit limitations.
